FWIW I am 1-1.5s per minute faster in my 2004 996 Cup than in my 2015 991.1RS on Cup2. Equal driver, GT2RS may just have the upperhand on a power circuit, but in general the 996 will be a little faster. Still very impressive for the GT2RS given its weight and being a road car.

Thanks for the input, nice to have that comparison with an equal driver. I agree, even though the 6 cup is an old car, it’s still built solely to race. Given a road car can be so close and still meet DOT specs in all facets is mighty impressive, even if it’s worth almost 10x the cup

Apples to apples, the 2RS should be faster than a 6Cup. You know your car well and are an excellent driver. You crushed him in the braking zones, generally spanked the 2RS guy in the driving department overall. Nice job!

HP advantage is evident in the 2RS. No matter what, even on a tight track HP will give you an upper hand, on a fast track the advantage will be even greater. With the same caliber driver, my 996 chassis car running similar HP to the 2RS is about 3-4 sec faster than a 6Cup on a 2 min relatively tight technical track. On a faster track the advantage is greater. I would expect the 2RS to post up similar numbers. Some advantage will be lost due to tires but the uninterrupted power flow from the PDK will make up for some of it. It's amazing how capable the 996 chassis is to this day, 20 years later, a real drivers car which demands skill. I would not trade it for the later gen video game paddle cars for nothing. Thanks for the video!

Thanks John! I have a few things to work on to get that sub 2 min lap time at this track but the car is nicely set up currently. Your car is a monster! I agree the 996 is a beautiful chassis, very engaging and capable even after all these years. I would love to have a 991.2 cup but I could never give up the 996 as there’s nothing else like it. I will have to wait a few more years for the 991.2 to become an old dog lol.
