Default M5 ABS kit for 991.1 cup questions

should I consider new vs used?
how complex is the install? how many hours approx?
is it worth buying in Europe vs USA?

anything else I should know?

The previous owner of my car had the M5 Kit installed by Dawe's Motorsport up in stroudsburg and its absolutely amazing... granted the past decade of running 997's I never had ABS so I didnt know what I was missing, but I'm never going back now!
I looked at purchasing the 997 'kit' for our other car and just doing the install myself since it seems pretty straight forward. Not sure how many hours but wouldn't be surprised if it took about 2 days.
Personally I wouldn't go used, if installing yourself, but Im sure someone well versed with the system could easily make a used rig work just fine.
Dont forget to get the updated master cylinders!

If you need to take a peek at anything you're more than welcome to swing by and see how they installed mine.

Edit - Link to master cylinder update from motorsport: https://www.carreracup.com.au/wp-con...ylinder_en.pdf

Purchased mine through autometrics. Install took me about 5 hrs, including install of updated master cylinders.

You will be supplied somenl new brake lines for the connection from the master cylinders to the abs unit. They need fine adjustment to work.

If you do it yourself, make sure you route the harness properly through the cabin and especially inside the dashboard.

You will need the bosch msa cable as well, so add another $1000.

I augmented the manual that comes with the bosch m5 kit with the mathney manual. The mathney manual, which has some pertinent info, is more detailed, but is for a different harness.

Any other specific questions, let me know.

Used is fine but they don't come up for sale very often. The install is fairly straight forward. It's nice to have a shop with experience to make the install go smoother but it is not terribly difficult.
If you want new, send Gordon an email at autometrics@me.com. We are a bosch motorsport dealer and I believe sell more abs units than anyone in the country. I doubt the units are any cheaper in Europe. Perhaps the Porsche Motorsport kit from manthey is cheaper than pmna, but a Cup M5 kit is probably less expensive than either. There is also a M5 clubsport kit that comes with a universal wiring harness that is quite a bit cheaper. It functions exactly the same as the Cup kit but the install isn't quite as tidy without the custom wiring harness.

When I installed the Bosch M5 kit, it comes with its own wiring harness. You have to route that harness through the firewall via a hole you have to drill. It isn't very difficult to do. That's probably the most complex part of the project.

I used one of these
Amazon Amazon
(It's a 26 mm hole).

Just remove the driver side wheel and liner and it's easy to mark and drill the hole using a 90 degree drill.

You will need two people (one should be on the smaller side to get into the driver side foot well) to attach the backing plate used to secure the harness to the firewall. That's the biggest pain in the whole project.

Autometrics was great on providing me with what I needed to do the installation, including the new brake lines.

Here's a link to the Bosch ABS M5 Kit for the Cup (See downloads):
https://www.bosch-motorsport.com/con...Tabs=54827659/

Here's the link to the Mathney installation - it has some good torque values for some of the components and worth reading:
https://www.manthey-racing.de/Instal...EN_2_V1_EN.pdf

You must have the Bosch MSA Box II cable to connect to the unit and initialize the ABS system.

As a side note/disclaimer, I'd say that you have to be comfortable and competent when working with your brake system. If you are not, leave it someone who is experienced.

If you follow the link above to Bosch and go to downloads, you will see the software you need. You need it to test the functions and bleed the system.

I think there is a used one for sale in another thread. They sell quickly.
