Question Momo Steering Wheel

Does anyone know if a hub adapter is necessary when using a momo steering wheel?

I'll second that...a very easy swap. The adapter is about $55-65.

Put one on my '87 911 -- only problems were no turn signal defeat or horn -- any add ons for that?

pull the adapter back off and make sure you didn't break the cancellation pin on the hub. on the cancellation lug on the back of the adapter, you can use a file to break the sharp corners of the metal. that helps sometimes. then make sure the lug is as close to center as possible between the pins when you put the adapter back on. if you have enough play in the steering, you can turn on each signal and turn the adapter back and forth to see of it cancels them.

sound like you wired it wrong. the instructions aren't perfectly clear on that. try it again.

On my 81SC, I had to remove the plastic turn signal canceller and horn contact from the back of the original wheel (take 3 screws out), and use the 3 adaptor enclosed metal screws to put it into the back of the Momo adaptor. The horn wire comes forward through a hole in the adaptor and hooks into the brass tab in the middle of the new wheel's horn pushbutton. Looks better with the Porsche horn button in place of the Momo horn button that came with the steering wheel.

Quick release adapter didn't have tab so will try to take from original wheel - no horn wiring either -- probably couldn't use anyway with release unless there's some trick adapter --thanks for the info

On my race car I have to have a horn, so I machined a brass slip ring to fit between adaptors, it's quite simple but it does take a little time, I know you guys have azailable to you wireless door contacts for hot rods ect., I would adapt one of those.

Tried what Bill recommended successfully, with the exception that with quick release hub it is also necessary to run a ground wire out as well. The horn button that came with the wheel is too deep to fit all the way in, but with some trimming on the back side it fits pretty well -- are there any differences in the Porsche horn button mentioned in another post here that might make for a better fit?

John,

I installed a Momo Corse wheel, without a quick release, and using the standard Momo mount. There is an round aluminum piece (came with the stock mount) that fits between the mount and the steering wheel that causes the horn button to snug right up.
