Default Brake Kits: Unsprung Weight Comparison?

Does anyone have any figures on how much weight you may or may not save with the various brake kits out there?

I think we should try to get a list toghether, maybe a chart by brand, rotor/caliper size, size of the rotor and size of the caliper.

Anyone, please post up whatever info you have and i'll update the main post periodically.

NAME------------------------------------------------------ ROTOR INFO-----------------------------------------CALIPER INFO

OEM Brakes

- 996 Carrera
- 996 Turbo
- 986 Boxter

Stoptech

- Big Brake Kit Front
- Big Brake Kit (ST-60 Calipers)

Brembo

- Big Red
-Grand Tourisimo
- GTR (That insane 15,000$ kit)

Performance Friction
- 4 Piston Kit
- 6 Piston Kit

9ff

RUF

Any other additional notes and info you have on the kits should be posted as well: are they full floating, Monobloc calipers, removable bridges, etc etc.

How about a question.
When can cross drilling be reliable, and is it worth the weight saved for the heatsink area removed?

Are 993 TT rotors really that much lighter than the 3.6 Turbo brake setup? I'm talking about the Big Reds and taking advantage of the aluminum hats.

Thanks,

Jason

Factory Brembo and Zimmerman x-drilled are as reliable as any.

Any rotor can be made to crack: solid, drilled, sloted, frozen doesn't matter

aftermarket drilled are easiest to crack

cracking comes from several sources
*plain old overheating
*differential heating/cooling
*combination of heat and pressure
*metalurgy
*runout issues

things to avoid
*aftermarket drilling
*oversized calipers on stock rotors
*extreme differential heating and cooling

There is a nice summary of many brake options at http://www.pelicanparts.com/MotorCity/wmv/brakes.htm

It's work checking out. Hope this helps some.
