That's the exact thought prior to my purchase, but the kids (and adult) really love the 2 individual rear seats. To make a bench for 3, then the middle seat will be a big compromise, and the 2 passengers beside it won't like it either.
I think Porsche should make a minivan for us with big family...
IMHO i think the Cayenne is the best multi-purpose Porsche ever. Considering our perfect (ha ha) family size (4) I love having a Panamera one day. First owners please take a good care of my future CPO Pan.
Turbo.
The new Cayenne is a MAJOR improvement over the old one. Looks, performance, correction of the stupid design flaws (the rear seats now fold flat without requiring the removal of the headrests for example), a real entertainment system with bluetooth and ipod input etc., just all around much better in every way.
We never liked the old ones and bought x5s instead. But I think they finally leapfrogged the X5 instead of playing catch up. My wife and I drove one and loved it. Don't think you could really go wrong there.
It is my understanding that the drivetrain, etc inhabit the center console and putting in a middle rear seat would require the entire car to be raised above the running gear. Just imagine what this would do to handling and appearance, just for an occasional use.
Just curious has anyone squeezed a person in the middle straddling the center console? No seatbelt is a problem. How uncomfortable? Would a thin foam pad on the console help enough?
Just thinking of short situations needing to fit five.
This is one of my favorite new "cars" in a long time but to own such a big car as a daily driver with the 2+2 configuration that you can't have the optional 5th seat when needed for transporting family/friends or a dog defeats the main purpose of owning a car of this size. If I am going to own a 2+2 I think I am going to opt for the 911 turbo everytime...
I would think a small demographic would be interested in such a configuration (pricey, big, heavy, not much cargo space and only 2+2 seating) Despite all this I still LOVE this car just don't know if I will be buying one...
Out of curiosity, How many instances happen where people need a 5 seater? In addition to my P4S, I own a touareg and have carried 5 people 4 times in 5 years of ownership, and those times were when we where conducting a town-wide deer census.
