Default Window tinting

Hi,

I was told by the dealer selling me the '16 GTS that tinting of the windows would result in the scratching of the tints as it is very tight fit between the windows and the tracks. Is this true?

As well, what should the a fair price to tint the windows on a Panamera?

Thanks

Yes, it is true. You, or the tint shop, needs to install felt along the inner window-seal. It's pretty easy to DIY. Most shops don't charge a fortune to do it. As for tint, that depends on the quality of the materials and the installer. When I did mine, I believe it was $400-ish with Llumar ceramic. I installed the felt myself - AFTER I noticed the scratches in my new tint. I was not aware that this was a thing until it happened to me.

as noted, you will want them to install felt at the same time if you can, I have the same problem as Shrike071, felt not installed until after the scratches occured.

+2 on the scratches. On my 18 Turbo I had the dealer do it, 1 year later I have scratches. On my 14-4S I hired a guy that said he was doing felt and had Zero issues. I figured the people the dealer would hire would know about felt, Im not so smart.

This is good info. Does anyone have more info on the type of felt and ideally installation instructions? Thanks!

Where I live, there is a 70% limit for the front windows (which makes it not worth doing) and as I do not want to have a big difference between the two side windows, I think I will hold off tinting the windows.

I guess on hot, sunny days, I will raise the rear side and back window electric shades

Thanks for your help. Much appreciated.

You have to remove the door panels to do the felt, not for the faint of heart

For the record, I did not have to remove the panels on my '12. Just the sunshade modules.

Hey everyone. New here and just had my ‘18 Panamera delivered last week. I have tint appt scheduled for Friday with a solid shop who has done all my vehicles, but the shop said there will be unavoidable scratches without some type felt and made me sign a waiver. They don’t do the felt for you there.

Do you have any tips, how-to’s or videos you can point me to on how to do this myself before the appt? It would be greatly appreciated! Or if you think I should reschedule the appt since it’s so short notice and order what I need first. Ceramic tint cost is around $1000 for all windows, front/rear windshield and sunroof, and I don’t want to waste that kind of money if it will truly get scratched!

Same here, and tint is an absolute must in San Antonio. I used a high end tint shop recommended by Porsche.

My Panny is a 2023 GTS and I had tint installed by a very reputable place and the same happened. I have since removed the tints on my front doors, the other windows are fine however they are barely used. I wouldn’t install without the felt ur pretty much guaranteed to get scratches.

So strange. My buddy has a 970 and said there are no scratches on his either. He didn’t even know it was a thing. Wondering if I should roll the dice for Friday morning and just go with it..

Oh no 🥲. I rolled the dice and went with it even after seeing all of the posts/comments. There is a second shop in town I’ve never used who said they are familiar with the problem, but they usually always remove the door panels. If I bring it by they’ll check if it can be done without removing them.
