Default 971 Can't Dim Instrument Cluster Enough

2018 971..Instrument cluster brightness from +5 to -5 isn't very much. -5 is way too bright for night driving.
Anyone else have this? Dealer says thats the way it is with the 971
Solution?

Why do so many people here keep writing "971", "970", etc.? These numbers mean nothing to me, and I have to keep looking around to see what the heck they stand for. Why not just give the year and model of the car, as you did in the text (but not in the title)?

I agree that you can't reduce the screen brightness enough on my 2018 Panamera. But my much bigger gripe is how sunlight reflects year round off the bright chrome and glassy areas on the front interior of the Panamera into the eyes of both driver and passenger; no excuse for such poor design. Unlike the night-time display, daytime sunlight reflected in your eyes is blinding.

That's why I didn't get the sport steering wheel on my 970 model. Way too much glare.

I actually get very little off the steering wheel... Most comes off of the control panel by the gear shifter -- where there should be zero chrome and zero shiny glass, and all matte-black with a rough finish to avoid reflections. Horrible engineering design.

Yes, that gets to me every once in a while as well.

They're internal Porsche designations which cover multiple model years. If you ask for help with a 2018, you may only get responses from 2018 owners. However, 971 covers 2017 - present, so, 3 MYs and counting with 2020s about to drop. So, saying 971 makes it more likely that you'll get more responses.

Secret handshake and all that... BMW peeps do it also, they talk about their E92s (M3) for example.

I addressed the reflection from the chrome ring around the clock with a "clock ring". Search Amazon for "Porsche clock ring." It's there for $14.99 in "cathouse red". I painted it flat black with a rattle can. It mounts with double-side tape. I wanted a tighter mount, so I removed the tape and used Crazy Glue. It looks OEM, and eliminates the reflection glare from this source.

OK, so where is there a reference table online of all the "secret codes" for all the Porsche models?

Well, there're only two, I think, for the Panamera. (I'm new to Porsche)

If you're talking 911, then using model codes makes even more sense. Click back to the "Porsche Discussion Forums", and they're organized by Porsche's designation of 911 models, eg.: 993, 996, 997, 991, 992, etc.

In similar vein, BMWs with 40 years of 3-series, it's helpful to use E21, E30, E36, E46, E90/91/92, F30, F80, etc to get more precise information.

Yes, I see the 3-character (usually 3-digit) "codes" on the Rennlist forum index for all but the Panamera and Macan... I've owned both "generations" of Panameras, so I'm very familiar with them -- but I never learned their 3-digit codes. For me, seeing the model year tells me what I need to know, generally.
