Default Anyone catch fire yet??

This blower control unit thing is so annoying. I was just curious if anyone has heard of someone's Pan actually catching fire.
How many of you guys are also parking outside?

So that one was in Russia and made it in the news due to the severity of it...destroyed a garage that it was in.

Apparently, less severe ones(self-extinguished) were less publicized but I'm reading 8 incidents reported...didnt say where these incidents were...US, Europe, Canada, etc?

https://www.carcomplaints.com/news/2...ing-fire.shtml

"Porsche received its first Panamera complaint in 2013 and thought it was an isolated incident. Then in 2015 another report was received but the automaker couldn't find a reason for either incident.

Over the next three years four more incidents occurred but investigators still had no clue what was causing the problems. Porsche also says most of the incidents ended in smoldering that was self-extinguished.

In January and April 2019, Porsche was informed of two additional incidents similar to the previous reports, except this time engineers were able to determine what caused the problems.

Porsche is working on an interim fix that dealers can perform until replacement air conditioning blower control units are ready. The automaker says the new control units will include better seals to keep water out."

Keep in mind if you bring your car to a dealer for any service they are required to do this interim fix. Im waiting for the final fix, I dont want them digging around in there more than once if I can help it.

Would love to hear your perspectives on why you’re waiting on the interim fix. I’m a bit worried since it’s pretty hot here in So Cal so running the AC nonstop and parking it in a hot garage!

There are now parts here so was going to schedule to have the interim fix done. But saw this thread and wanted to see how many folks have done it vs. waiting for the final fix. Does the interim fix have any impacts?

The dealers have shared that the final fix parts are being made.

They have to remove the glove box to get to the blower unit, basically anytime a mechanic is working on the interior of the car there is a chance they will damage something... a broken clip, a scratch on the trim, a chunk out of the leather.. etc etc. It can be something small but still unnecessary to a really annoying squeak that wasn't there... basically the less they are pulling apart anything in the cabin the better! I might be a bit special, but I'd rather the car burn to the ground than the mechanic damage the interior..

Oh geez, that would suck. I’ll take pics of the front passenger side of the car then. It’s going in today to get this interim fix and a couple of warranty things. Will post back any anomalies. Thanks!

have to admit, i always worry about damage to interior pieces when my cars are worked on also. i'm super careful when i do things, but i have had many occasions where surfaces/pieces were damaged during a repair service. i hate sending my clean cars in for service. i will be doing this interim fix soon though, as i plan to put my car up for sale very soon.

Just got the car back and it came back in one piece without any visible damages to the interior. I don't get inside the cars enough to know whether anything internal was damaged.

I have to say that I'm a bit disappointed with my Porsche service experience so far. With the recall, they didn't even fill up my gas tank. With Lexus, that was always a no-brainer plus I always knew when things were happening (e.g., when parts were coming in, etc.). The customer service is so very different from what I can tell. Here's an example of Lexus - when my touch screen died after 10 years but with little miles, my service advisor told me to call Lexus about the fact that I had such little miles on the car because they would send me a new one. After that phone call, I did get a replacement system installed by Lexus for free.

With this recall, I've been the one to have to constantly call around and ask about when the parts were coming in. Even with the final fix, there is just no information from my service advisor and I honestly think that he doesn't even know.

I'm not trying to denigrate the Porsche experience because I truly LOVE driving my car every day. It's definitely better than driving my Lexus. BUT I do wish that the brand took a page from a company like Lexus in customer service and be more forthcoming with information like recalls....if it deserves a recall, f'ing make the parts and be transparent about the delays and what we can expect so that we're not all waiting around for it. I suspect that some of this is that I am working with a new dealership but based on the posts here and at 6speedonline, there's not a ton of transparency on when these parts became available.

Thanks for letting me rant for a minute....calm deep breaths! Getting off my

It seems that it's hit-or-miss with Porsche dealerships. I've dealt with several dealerships, and while I've found a couple of really good ones, the bad ones seem to out-number the good ones in both the sales and service departments. I don't think that Porsche USA cares all that much -- though they (or Porsche Deutschland) do seem to care how the dealership buildings look.

There was a Panamera E-Hybrid that caught fire in a garage in Thailand a couple years ago, destroying the garage and part of the house, I think -- you can google it and find news stories; it was evidently plugged in and charging when it caught fire, and speculation on the Porsche forums outside Thailand was that the electrical circuitry at the house that was probably defective, being Thailand and all (but I never heard if there was a resolution to the cause).

I had the new relay put in today and found out another recall came out yesterday according to the service advisor for a bushing for the transmission cable. I have not looked into yet but probably pretty simple fix. Here is the text of the work order.
