Interesting... So might this end up being like Ferrari's GTC4Lusso, perhaps? The GTC4Lusso is only 5 inches shorter than the current Panamera, at 194 inches -- pretty long for a 2-door hatchback. I think that the Lusso is also an inch or two wider than the Panamera. (The Porsche 911, for comparison, is only 178 inches long.)

Interesting. I have coveted the 928 since I was a boy. I would love to see a modern version of it based on the Panamera, however I think the minds at Porsche will see such a car to be a 992 cannibal.

I owned a brand new 928S4 in 1987, luved it as much as the 911 turbos I used to drive back then and would welcome a proper successor...come on Porsche make it so!

IF and only if they shorten up the wheelbase a bit. Giving up some back seat and hatch room, for a slightly smaller coupe version would be my perfect car. This, of course, as long as they make the doors large enough to comfortably get in the back.

As long as it emphasizes the function of the backseat, with a bit smaller, tighter suspension, its not going to hurt the 992 - totally different kind of car. If for some reason it outsold the 992, why would Porsche care if they created something people actually want...… They could reduced the number of platform variants of the 992 even....there has to be some out of the 236 option variants that don't sell.

THIS

I Believe the designer of the original 928 designed this newer Panamera. If they do the two doors it has to be more 928 oriented and distinct and not just a shortened wheelbase.

makes no sense to me. back in the day 911 was a raw car only for sports car enthusiasts so 928 made sense as a lux gt. now the 992 is way more lux than 928 ever was. how can Porsche distinguish pana coupe from that? Ferrari lusso is very different from a tributo so that makes sense.

I'm not sure what doesn't make sense. Some people want a usable back seat. The 911 does not have one not matter how much larger and more luxury it has vs. the air cool purist form. Some people want something that has a usable back seat, that isn't a full sized luxury sedan. A tweener Panamera like car would fit the bill. Its my ideal car, but I'm not sure that it would sell. Of course no one though that the Panamera and Cayenne would sell either....so...

No reason it would need to be more expensive than a Panamera. It would want to be a slightly smaller car, and certainly lighter. Priced about the same, with similar trim options, but then maximizing the performance and handling while sacrificing the back seat room and headroom wouldn't need to be more expensive. Just making a 2 door regular sized Panamera would be dumb. The whole design of the Panamera places emphasis on the back seat passenger. A 2 door car with a usable back seat, places priority on the driver, while having a back seat that is adequate but not optimized.

To me it would make perfect sense to have the Panamera, The Panamera Executive (extended), and the Panamera Coupe (shorted). They could all still be a Panamera, and similarly priced and packaged. Certainly its a LOT of trims to manage, so maybe the coupe is Turbo and Turbo S only since presumably whomever is getting the smaller Panamera is doing so FOR the performance NOT the backseat! Personally I think it would sell.

so 911 and pana coupe would be same price? to me smarter move would be to make the panamera a normal 5 seater instead of 4 or even dumber, 4 and 1/2. lots people buy sedans to fit 3 in back. pana gives up sales to amg and m for no reason

The Panamera and 911 aren't really priced that far apart anyway really. I was specifically referring to a Panamera coupe being priced like a Panamera though.

I don't disagree with your statement about the backseat, with more of bench option. It sort of goes away from the executive rear cockpit though, but I 100% agree that should be an option.
