You still have regeneration in play which appears to be probably the main reason batteries are not lasting as long as they should, ie, they are not being fully charged on a regular basis hence they fail early, this is nothing to do with more electrical components being fitted to the car, a larger battery will cover that and the alternator is fully capable of keeping all electrical components running and keeping the battery fully charged at the same time. The smart charging system is designed to save fuel, that`s it, unfortunately the side effect is an undercharged battery (75%) for a considerable part of the time which shortens it`s life. The article below does not even mention stop/start and smart charge, this is Fake information in my view, other than keyless start everthing else has been on cars for years.

2018 P 4S

Disconnected plug on - post at battery as posted above

On start u get a Start/Stop failure notice that needs to be cleared in instrument cluster

Battery gauge does not work now

Start/Stop is off

Conclusion: Since u need to still hit a button to clear warning its no different than hitting a button to turn S/S off. Not being able to see whats going on with battery is the deal breaker.....

Need to find something else....

Well you tried.
We see nothing on Mercedes, as I have said my Merc`s have been running for 8 months with sensor disconnected with NO issues and NO warnings, in fact unless you actually scan the system nothing shows up.
I assume the car starts and drives OK with warning notice on, as far as no battery gauge, so what, all it does is show the charging voltage, Merc`s don`t have one but a battery monitor only costs around £4.50 from ebay, you just plug them into the cig socket and view the voltage as you drive, same as your gauge on car.
So it appears the only issue is the notice telling you stop/starts not working, How big is it on dash, what does it look like?. I could live with a notice to loose that infernal device. With the C-Class symbol on dash stays yellow (off) on SLK symbol goes out (off).

To add, the weather here in the UK has not been good recently and the SLK has been standing in the garage and little used over this 3-4 week period, I did a voltage check across the battery terminals this morning, my multimeter read 12.8 volts which indicates that the battery is fully charged, the car had stood all night. This clearly shows that when the alternator charges continuously the vehicles battery always remains fully charged or near too.

Have now purchased a Cayman 981, I have removed the battery sensor on Porsche, battery charges at 14.1 volts and everything works as normal other that stop/start is deactivated, link below ( last posting on page 2) relating to discussion with Pic`s.

I'm pretty sure I've got one the highest average driving speed of all the Panamera on the forum as for me cruising at 110 mph for 300 miles straight is a regular occurence (only slowing down for know speed traps / speed cams) and I'm basically overall always speeding and yet...

Only 300 hp here and nearly always driving in comfort mode.

My Panny is my daily driver and although once in a while I have some fun (Sport mode, PDK in semi-manual mode and with traction control off), my typical use is as a comfy and luxury saloon while listening to the amazing sound system. The comfort mode really helps getting that smooth feeling. Also when they're in the car the wife + kiddo sleeping in the back certainly do prefer the comfort mode too: wife + kiddo in my case being also kinda the point of having a Panny.

At 18 000 miles driven per year with the Panny (also very likely more than most owners here) I certainly enjoy the lesser fuel consumption when in comfort mode too.

Another non-sensical question could be: "If your Panamera is in Sport or Sport Plus mode all the time, what's the reason for not using your 911 GT3 instead?"

AGM Battery's, interesting read, appears manufactures are going back to flooded as AGM`s are not lasting very long.

And if so, is it done by the dealer or an aftermarket solution?

I’ve read other threads where someone with PIWIS 2/3 can disable A/S using this. Is this confirmed for 971?

Thus far, I’ve set Individual mode to disable it, which is very easy to engage from the sport plus wheel on steering wheel.... but it would be nice to not have to do that.

From what i can gather with the Porsche PIWIS u can program auto s/s:

Always ON
Always OFF
Remember last setting

But I haven't confirmed that it has/can be done on US cars....
Definitely can be done on US cars. Need a PIWIS 3 in engineering mode so the dealer will not do it. I can do it in a few minutes. Here is a picture of the screen taken from a 971 gateway module in engineering mode, manual programing area.

as you can see Stop prohibition is a selectable option.

This works perfectly (as long as you have the sport chrono **** I-O-S-S+) on our 2020 Panamera 4S. I installed the memory module in less than 10 minutes and auto start-stop is now gone forever. Check it out: https://t-design9.com/memory_module.html
