Default 970 4S or GTS

I’ve been passively looking to replace my CPO 997.2S with a CPO 970 GTS. I had a 2nd child 6 months ago and I don’t have the space to keep the 911 and add the Panamera. I found a GTS with the exact spec I wanted on the FIRST day I was looking. I didn’t jump on it and here we are 6 months later...

The dealer I purchased my 997.2 from just got a 970 4S with PDCC/PTV, Sport Exhaust, and excellent service history in on trade. It’s not a GTS and it’s not CPO, but it has the two options I care about most (PDCC and Sport Exhaust).

Almost all of the GTS I have seen come up for sale do not have PDCC. I’d also be saving $20K on choosing the 4S over a CPO GTS, so I could splurge for Fidelity 3rd party warranty.

Am I crazy to be considering this or will the V8 + PDCC + Sport Exhaust be enough to scratch my itch?

Have you looked nationally with Porsche's search tool? Sport Exhaust is standard on a GTS. I'm biased... if handling is a priority for you, GTS with PDCC/PTV+ in PASM Sport+ (lowest ride height) gets you close to the 997. GTS ride height is 10mm lower than non-GTS models.

So this is a 2012 or earlier. Two things going for this one is the lack of the expensive-to-repair air suspension and the less expensive front brake rotors which is fine for street driving. With a good service history it sounds like a good one. Just make sure the cam bolts have replaced on recall if this car was affected.

970.1 4S models with V8 are 2010 thru 2013. Air Suspension is a prerequisite for PDCC/PTV+.

Yup, I “passively” search on the PCNA pre-owned car locator every day.

And the car does comes equipped with air suspension. Is this something I should be worried about? If so, what are the early warning signs of worn out air shocks?

The car has had its 60k PDK service, 60k major service, PDCC resevoir replaced, 4 new tires, new brakes, and AH08 recall. It has passed the CPO checklist despite it being out of age range to qualify for CPO status.

The only thing I can think of them needing to check is the upper and lower control arm bushings, which they said they would gladly do with me present.

If this car had the sport design package I wouldn’t be so hesitant. Thanks for the feedback. Deposit made, going to see the vehicle this week.

Air Suspension technology is the same between 970.1 and 970.2. The technology has changed for 971.

Air Suspension is required before you can option PDCC/PTV+ (see footnote under PTV+).

A large number of GTS with PDCC option shows up in a national search.

Good luck!

good to know. Can you note differences in air suspension? I was thinking about this recently.

FWIW, I had a CL 63 with the hydraulic ABC system. Had it replaced in 2 different cars under warranty. So just trying to understand differences.

Unfortunately, all of the GTS on the PCNA site are 970.2 and I prefer the 970.1 body style. If I end up with the 970 4S I will likely trade up to a 971 GTS when they become available pre-owned in the next 24 months.

Air Suspension technology in the 971 is a 3-chamber component, same as the new Cayenne. See this...

Good options list. If you like the color, condition, options, and mileage, it should be a smooth transition from your 997.2S. The sport-chrono package and the other options will give you most of what you are looking for.

A long-time Turbo owner who moved to a Panamera GTS with no regrets.
