Default Mid engine vette

Curious to know if anyone else is possibly interested in a mid engine vette.

It sounds like it may be happening.

I would have interest if it:

Naturally aspirated
Manual trans
Didn't overheat
Was lightweight
Reasonable price.

Well, Eric Curran who races a mid engine Vette in WeatherTech said it's happening...so I believe him!

If it's priced at 60k i'll consider it. Otherwise it's looking like a used Audi R8 V10 6 speed for me next.

It already does those things with the current z06. Honestly, the only thing that kept me from getting a C7 was the horrendous auto. If it had a DCT, I would have bought it. Yes, there are a few of you old timers, but even polls here show most people, even for track, want a track-capable auto.

While it could potentially be a great car, I don't know why GM would bother...alienating the faithful without any guarantee of converting buyers of mid- and rear-engined sports cars, especially in such a small market niche? Seems like a big gamble with no payoff to me.

Not unlike when Porsche built a fancy Corvette called the 928 and thought it would replace the 911...

Who are they going to alienate? I would guess 99% of corvette buyers are men who simply reached the age of 55 and wanted something that says Corvette on it. They'll never be driven above the speed limit around their retirement communities.

Thought my analogy was pretty clear, but to put a finer point on it: The Corvette faithful are no less loyal to their formula than the 911 faithful are to theirs...

There are plenty of 50-something 911 buyers out there...

then to use your point against you, Porsche dropped the manual from the GT3 and RS and demand has never been higher. Old timers will complain every time there is a change. The cars are getting too fat, too fast, wrong transmission, too many electronics, too many nannies, etc. Yet people keep buying the cars. The world moves on. The corvette is not defined by a specific layout or transmission.

Fair point. But keep in kind - some of the demand has to do with current economic conditions.
