OT - Z/28 at the 'Ring: 7:37 wet lap

I race in classes where cars are quite mixed. Sometimes I'm coming off of a corner right behind a former trans-am or nascar, and I have to say I've found myself swearing and laughing out loud when those things just lay stripes (literally) and open up with that V8 soundtrack - on what for me are third gear corners. I know they are having a ball.
That thing is going to be a monster. And I bet it's a ball because you'll be able to drive it on the throttle like few other cars...

I don't understand why some people are defending extra weight in a track car. Kudos to chevy and it's team for such an awesome job on some of the details, but I bet if you were to ask them, what's the one thing you would change in the car?....

Sure .
But don't be fooled on Porsches weights either . They don't always add up . Porsches do feel lighter though . But the extra ponies in these V8s have a feel too .

How much is one of these again ? $75,000 plus dealer gouge .
While it did beat my Boss 302 , I still think that the Vette isn't a better buy .
I do think that tires and the magnetic suspension is most of the difference though . Plus my Boss came at a great price !

A $58k C7 Z51 vette (another GM product) is 500lb lighter and with better lb/hp ratio, and also with track warranty. The Z28 is advertised as a track weapon. At 500lb heavier than a vette it's more like a pig. 500lbs is a lot of extra work for brakes, tires, suspension, etc.
It's the comparison to the $58k vette that I don't get.
EDIT: Plus the Z28 has the old, outgoing 7.0L LS7 engine that has had a lot of problems (as per corvetteforum). The C7 has the newer, more robust 6.2L LT1 engine

Interesting .
And still unusual to hear factory guys talking about tracking these cars .
Maybe Ford will climb up some more too . But in some ways they have as the dedicated racing only Boss can be bought for similar money .

Wow, my best lap in the 3.8RS was a 1.38 on RA1's.
The track got faster with the new surface and I'm no Pobst but I would say this car as about as fast a GT3RS on fast courses.
I'm going to test drive Savyboy's at Spring Mountain along with some Z51's
He does not know this yet and I usually don't test drive the cars that I buy from him, but I may be able to this time :-) ;-)

The press embargo came off and there are a variety of videos and article now out in the wild- bottom line: GT3 killer at 1/2 the purchase price and 1/8 the repair cost.
Maybe I don't need rear wheels steering, a 9000RPM exploding engine, $10,000 of Porsche electronic driving aids and deviated stitching, and a double-coupling tranny (ewww!) to have fun and run fast laps? OMG!
Here's Randy Pobsts' take: http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/...28_first_test/
"The new Z/28 is an exclusive, no-compromise ponycar for the track. A hands-on driver. Organic, not electronic. Buy it with that in mind, and you’ll be delighted. You won’t mind the way it follows every trough in the pavement, or that air-conditioning is optional; buy that for the pre-grid only. The best Corvettes are still lighter and faster, so you have to want a Camaro, a great one that almost no one else has, with its own unique thrills. At the end of the day, I jumped from an all-wheel-drive Nissan GT-R and Porsche 911 Turbo S to the rear-drive all-American Z/28, and in a slight power-slide as I left the lot, the grin on my face reminded me which one was my favorite."
