Default Bought a Lotus Exige Cup 240 instead

I thought I was in the market for a 996 GT3 for the long haul but after many months I was unable to find anything that was suitable in my price range. Then this came up at a price I couldn't refuse.

It's a 2005 Exige Cup 240. These were in produced in very limited numbers (only 6 in Aus) and come with the supercharged Toyota donk as well as ohlins 2 way adjustable dampers, adjustable swaybars, full roll cage and harnesses, plumbed firebomb and battery cut off switches. No radio and A/C an an option.

This particular car also has an upgraded supercharger, fuel system, ECU and larger AP racing brakes. All of that equates to about 300hp in ~ 900kg. Should provide me with plenty of fun for the time being!

Looks great,

Did you upgrade the rear wing? That looks to be the newer wing they released.

Sorry just saw these posts now!

Yes, the previous owner upgraded the rear wing to 2010 spec because the stock wing was flimsy and wobbly. There's also a much larger rear diffuser.

You were able to plate it for the road? Would love to hear you impressions of tracking it against higher displacement cars

yep, these cars were "cheated" through DOT for road use by Lotus Aus when they were new back in 2005. Basically they were imported from the UK as standard Exiges with an LSD and sold/delivered to their original owners who were given titles and plates. Then, they were sent back to a designated Lotus workshop in Aus and all of the CUP components (like the cage, harnesses and firebomb etc) were added.

So although they are plated, technically if you were cited by the police and sent for a roadworthy, you may have to pull the cage out. So too, because I bought this car from interstate, I had to go through the ordeal of fitting inertia reel seatbelts before they would give me plates. Thankfully I now have them!

RE: tracking vs other cars, i should be careful what I say () but the previous owner claims he had no problems passing GT3s at the track. Dont know about GT2s though...

That's a beautiful car, congratulations. I am definitely considering adding an Elise or Exige to the stable in the next few years.

Thanks, and I see you're in Austin. Its a sister city to Adelaide where I live - very similar cities I'm told and both have hosted F1 GPs! They are great cars, you wont be disappointed. Definitely dont have the build quality of Porsche and are much quirkier cars as a result but you learn to take it for what it is and enjoy them as a result!

Congrats , great cars - you can't beat the steering feel of the exige and elise. There are a lot of cars that tell you what the rear is doing but very few that tell you exactly what is going on in the front. I love my 05 Elise and 08 Exige S240. I don't think we will see many cars this weight in the future.

Yep the steering is excellent on this thing and that's even with 205s up front which are too wide for the the 6.5 inch wheels. I will probably go back to a 195 for my next tyres to sharpen things up a little.
