Im specifically interested in the first generation XKR (X100) with the supercharged 4.2... prices are crazy low and for around 400 horsepower in a good looking (basically DB7) coupe body, its tempting... im hoping that Ford has done good things reliability wise since the XJ v12s of the 80s and 90s...
thanks for any input! heres to hoping people actually look at this forum!

I'm always tempted when I see one come up. Seen some at $13-19K--Convertible no less...

exactly! its crazy.
ive done a little reading since my post and ive found out that the AJV8 in the later XK is also in the range rover, range rover supercharged, thunderbird, and lincoln LS. all pretty reliable cars... well their drivetrains are anyways...
The car is amazing looking... even today is a head-turner and like you mention is cheap than ever. I drove a feel.. is refined and offers a real luxury touch.
But the cons... Thirst exacerbates already high running costs, potential build quality problems and V8 bore liner erosion on pre-2000 model year cars.
and no, the evoque is not in the same leage as a supercharged jag... wasn't trying to be a dick, as i know its not your car but i just can't justify anyone paying a dime for one of those things... i'd like to see your pro/con comparison!

I surprised myself and actually thought both versions of the Evoque were quite nice-even on the road-until I saw the price and realized there are far more capable off-roaders for less!

i think this is most people's problem... not unlike the freelander, the evoque has a name that "evokes" (enh? see what they did there?) the offroad prowess of the range rover brand, and it(they) do not deliver. its purely a marketing ploy. i try to avoid vehicles that solely exist for marketing niches...
I bought a 2002 XJR 100 brand new in 2002 and kept it until 2006. Great car, came from the factory with BBS wheels and Brembo brakes to name a few. I never had a single problem with that car or motor. I put around 46K miles on it and it was one of the best cars I've owned.

Oops I missed this. I wasnt being a dick either, nor did I think you were.
I am not in any way comparing a Evoque to the high perforamnce Jag.
I was referring to the maintainance and repair costs of those Jags. It can likely really get up there in costs and pass even the Rover in repairs. I did not own one, but I have a couple of buddies that did. I made a lot of trips to the Jag shop dropping them off of picking them up.
BTW I passed on the Evoque and the Rover Sport for my wife and we are mulling the Mercedes Benz ML 350 vs a Cayenne.
