Our 2001 Allroad Quattro made it 175,000 miles before we sold it. It was a great vehicle, and it was a beast in the snow. Unfortunately, when it went bad, it got very expensive. That's why I sold it. The interior and the fit and finish on that car were great. I loved driving it. It just became too expensive to maintain.

I had a 09 A4 Quattro, put 95K miles on it in two years. Valve went, $4200 repair. Audi's answer to a car that's two years old and had all it's maintenance done, "10% off the labor".

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuccccccckkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk k Yooooooooooooouuuuuuuuuuuu Rawdi.

Picked the car up at the Dealership after it was repaired, drove to the MB dealership and left with a C300. couldn't be happier!

And now my fvck you Rawdi photo..... And what I'm happier with.

93 Audi 90 CS quattro sport with almost 170,000 miles and no issues. Interior is holding up great except for the door panels are a little worn. Still gets great gas mileage, too. Never heard anything bad about them except the whole gas pedal issue in the 80s, but not sure how much Audi was to blame based on what I've read.

btw, after driving my 968 74 k miles, beating the friggin' crap out of it the way i do, can i ever expect that an actual, repair will be required ?

so far;

1. one high pressure ps hose.

2. one very slow leak in the ps pump.

3. starter motor started acting up.

other than that just changing the oil, fuel filter, air filter, tranny fluid, timing belts, etc.... the car is now at 151 K. i run the M1 oil for 12 k miles in between changes and the car refuses to burn any of it. in any case, hopefully the engine will blow soon, so i can install the goodwrench Ls3 V8....

I do...we had both a 5000 and an Audi 100...put more than 250K miles on each until the maintenance just got to be too much. I do remember going thru several transmission rebuilds...about every 75K miles. But overall, both were fairly good cars.

I had an 01 Allroad which was a good car except for the air suspension. Kept it until 75K.
My current 04 A4 has been great. Well built, dependable, easy to work on. I've owned it for 4 years and it's currently at 83K.

So after 8 years of Audi ownership I would definitely buy another one again. Actually I've set my sights on this one when it hits our shores:

My wife has had an A6 every 3 years since 1992. All leases. Out of pocket extra = $0. Number of breakdowns = 0. Times the car failed to start = 0.
My son mistreated a '97 A6 we bought him in high school for 138K miles, parked outside year round in Ithaca NY the last 7 years. Repairs along the way, of course, but nothing major. No rust. Times it broke down/failed to start in 10 years = 1 (starter). After replacing the starter, he drove it home a month later and we traded it in on a CPO '08 sedan with 36K miles in November. Now he and my wife are driving A6 sedans. Audi was giving away "free" money in '08 (0.9% for 5 years), so we bought her car this time. It has 39K and feels as tight as the day we drove it home. Out of pocket in 3 years = new tires at 37K for $900.
We recently moved to a small town that doesn't have an Audi dealer but has MB. Thinking we would trade in for more convenient servicing and to support the local business, we both test drove an E350 4matic. What a piece of crap. Loose as a goose and the interior felt cheap. The 3 year old A6 felt brand new on the drive home compared to the MB with 26 miles on it.
So, I guess every maker has good and bad examples of their products based on the opinions here. We must have good luck with the Audis. As long as the dealer continues to valet for service, I see no reason to change.

My personal experience with Audis is quite dated. But each of them were great until they hit 50k. Out of warranty, repairs were mounting up. Every few months, another $1K for some computer brain fart. I went to an indy, and it was a few bucks less.

My friends with newer Audis are very satisfied. But they lease them and the cars are turned in after 3 years/ 36k miles.

I think the same issues exist with most German highline vehicles. Be prepared to spend lots of $$$ after the warranty expires.

I think this quote nails it. Any German car repair will be excessive, at least at the dealer. From my limited experience, I would put Audi at the lower end of repair charges behind Porsche and Mercedes. (Never had a BMW). Now if my Japanese cars (Subaru and Toyota) ever needed a repair I would have something to compare to, but each are over 100K with nothing wrong yet.

Back to Audi: I am thinking of a S5 myself . . .

For the average idiot, they can be a nightmare. You know the type that says **** like "Oh, I didn't know you still had to change the oil in cars these days"

If you keep up with your maintenance they can be perfectly reliable, however they are a BITCH to work on...

My 08 and 09 BMW's were nightmares with the top end of both motors replaced with 20,000 miles and 5,000 miles respectively. I then bought a 4.2 Q7 that cost the dealer about $12,000 in warranty work in the first year that I owned it. I have a 10 A4 and the car is a "no issue car" and I love driving it. Next year I will be getting the A7, A6, or S5. I think that as with anything simpler is better.

Is that the new A4 wagon? I even really like the new A3 wagon; at 30k in the premium trim, sounds like a steal.

Strange mix of opinions here; older cars were more reliable. Newer cars are the best built yet. No problems with mine. Many problems with mine. Strange.

Presently driving a 2010 Audi Q7 diesel, it's my wife’s daily driver. We have about 30k miles on it and only minor issue with the Add Blue pump, no break downs just a CEL.
The quality is very good and we are both very impressed with the fuel mileage of the diesel in such a large vehicle.
The only thing that would stop me from getting another Audi is the service dept, not impressed with that dept at all.
