p.s.
I was surprised to read that some Audis are assembled in India and China. For that kind of money I find that interesting.

I am eyeing the new A6 with the 3.0 supercharged engine in a few years. Many Audi, Mercedes, BMW and other makes are assembled in China to be sold into the Chinese market.

Q;

why isn't a 4.0 litre supercharged engine offered ? the idea of such a costly automobile having anything less than 4.0 litres and then bragging about performance really pisses me off.

^ I don't know but the 3.0T used to be turbo until this year when it was replaced with a supercharger.

We had a '06 A6 bought in '07 w/12k. Loved the interior, drove nicely and liked the styling. However, somewhere between 60k ~ 80k they absolutely seem to fall to pieces.

NEVER, EVER will I own an Audi out of warranty.....EVER. EVER.

Oh, and if it is not a Quattro forget it. Their CVT trannies are complete junk and run you about $8~$9k for a new one. Some bright *** engineer @ Audi decided that CVT's never needed to have the tranny fluids changed.....well that is biting them firmly in the *** now.

I've got an 03 A4 Quattro with tip (1.8T engine). Got it from my dad who bought it new. No real issues..coil packs and some vacuum connections done under warranty. I just did the timing belt/waterpump at 61K miles since the plastic impeller started to not pump anymore.. Other than that...solid car.
My dad got an 11 Q7 S-line Prestige with the 3 liter Supercharged 335 hp engine. Not many miles on it yet but nothing to report in his 8 months of driving it.

I come here into the Porsche world leaving the Audi world. I had a 2008 RS4 that I beat on pretty hard every time I drove it, and it never saw the dealer for any issues. The car was absolutely rock solid.

I think Audi quality is generally quite good. My parents just picked up a 2011 A8, and it's flawless inside and out.

What you need to worry about is carbon buildup on their DI motors - like the S5 (and RS4).

I've had two A4's a 1996 2.8 (two valve/cyl) and a 1998 2.8 (five valve/cyl). Both were pure **** with horrendous reliability issues largely electrical and some mechanical. Granted that was over adozen years ago so things might have changed but the experience peopole I know have had recently hasn't differed from mine.

We've had a Q5 for 2 years now; so far it's been great.

I have an A3Q on order, it should arrive in about a month and I'll then be able to alter my DD listing below.

At the Auto Mechanics class I go to, one of the students told the teacher that they had a newer Audi. The teacher, an independent mechanic, told him "I'm sorry to hear that" - haha. He says they get a lot of sludge if the oil isn't changed regularly, so regular maintenance is the key.

Bought a '80 5000S for my wife as a wedding present way back when and that was our first Audi. Been through several since including S4, A4, TT, and currently have a '06 A8 as my DD and a '11 TTS roadster for my wife as her M3 replacement which goes off lease in a month. Quattros are a godsend here in the winter and I've never had any major issues with any of them.
One of my best friends from the PCA used to give me **** all the time about driving an Audi (must have actually believed all the crap on 60 Minutes) but I got a great deal on a '88 Quattro sedan because of the CBS show.

I lust over the new A7- it makes the Panamera look like a real pig, even though the driving dynamics of the P-car are obviously superior. I'd take a A7 or S7 in a heartbeat.

Have also owned many a VW over the years and hear all that crap about their reliability and they've been great cars too. We have a '09 GLI in Arizona and it's a great and very utilitarian auto- and fun to drive. My son just turned a CC in on lease- it was bulletproof.

Maybe cars have a soul and know you're taking good care of them and treat you accordingly...

Kind of depends on who you talk to. In my experience, the build/mechanical quality (A8 excluded, they are amazing) on the more recent ones is comparable to VW.

They aren't considered to be super reliable, like a Hilux, Volvo or a 300D

my GF's 2005 TT with the 6 cylinder has been bullet proof except for a coil pack recall and the dash panel being replaced under warranty.
