Question Thinking about adding a Viper ACR to the stable

After seeing countless lap records achieved by this car. Like a 1.33 at Laguna Seca. A 7.12 at the Nurburgring etc. I think it would make a nice track mate with my GT3. Like a GT3RSR on roids in a way. What are your thoughts?

I own both a GT3RS and a Viper SRT10.

I Prefer my GT3 for pretty much everything, but the Viper is fun and has its moments.
It takes a lot to get a Viper around a track. You need to work for it every time.

The Viper has no electronic aids and the footwell gets extremely hot along with a bunch of other interesting characteristics. Think of it as a 1969 Corvette big bock but with radial tires and fuel injection!

The 2011 is the last of the true raw Viper, so get em' while the there hot.
2013 will be more of a luxo boat but im sure it will be half decent.

They are not a car you would want to commute everyday with nor spend a lot of time in.
Use it like a race motorcycle. For quick blasts and short cruising.

my 2008 acr spun a bearing during a track day - was told by chrysler that they wouldn't warantee the motor. it was due to oil starvation. arrow race engines in michigan told me to that a proper dry sump is a minimum requirement to keep the car track worthy, in addition to several coolng upgrades. the acr is easy to drive very fast providing your inputs are smooth but hamfisted attempts to drive the car result in less than satisfactory results....

TCS,
Is your's a ACR?
I heard that with the 2008-2010 Vipers there is no inside heat in the cabin. It is a complete different car compared to the 2003, and 2006's. Along with the 8.4liter 600hp motor with variable valve timing. I am looking at a 2010 ACR .

Sorry to hear about that, but I am a little surprised that they told you about the dry sump. Not to mention Chrysler not honoring a warranty for you. There is actually a Viper Cup Race series, and all of the ACRs do not run a dry sump. I don't believe the ACRX even has a dry sump either. Gotta be another reason.
Thank's for your inputs too.

I've raced an ACR-X and driven RSs.

The Viper demands much more respect and specifically rewards a smooth and prudent driver. And it's a hell of a lot of fun!

I have a 2005.

Vipers from 1992+ all have exhaust/engine heat in the footwell.

2008-2010's have more jam but are the same ball of wax. They may have refined them but i couldnt see it.

2011 has the best gearing.

I have driven both the 2008 Hennessy and the 2010 ACR.

They are all the same chassis and engine configuration more less.

That sounds awesome Serious! How's the down force produced by the ACR's aero? I've been lurking on some of the viper forums, and read that the back wing alone produces 1000lbs of downforce at 130mph.

TC,
There's no 2011 Viper. 2010 was the last year, and then the 2013 generation 5 car coming up. Thank's for those pictures too.

Appearantly TCS can make not only RS fly but also Vipers :-)

TTman, they are rough around the edges.
Small inside and although much approved not like a Porsche.

Record Ultimate Factories on the History Channel and see a Viper getting built.

Having said that, the car is stupid fast, fun to drive in a rough sort of way and relatively cheap for the laptimes.
It is a weird to see it gather so much speed at relatively low RPM and lower rev limit. Much faster than any RS.

To my eyes and looking at some ACR X at local shops they could use a bit more development, stuff still breaks etc.
If it sounds luke a truck, has the motor of a truck and feels like a trucks......

Get the ACRX. Not expensive compared to a Cup car and as fast. Also cheaper to repair. Parts are the same than truck parts... a friend broke his transmission and replaced it for 3,500$ ! You want to know how much cost a Cup tranny ? But... not as fun as a Cup IMO.

Ha I like the truck analogy

I should of called my previous 08 Corvette Z06 a truck minus two cylinders LOL! No serious though I got rid of the Z06 because it looks like the million other vettes you see out on the streets everyday. Traded it in for the GT3, but I miss the pushrod power. Nothing like the power these engines put out, the torque too. That's why I've been leaning towards the Viper ACR. A very limited production run car, looks mean.Exculsive etc,and the only production car to break all the track records. Thanks guys.
