Looking for advice from like-minded car lovers. Now that the Porsche is hibernating, I'm starting to think about a new daily driver. I want something big, fast, luxurious and awd (live in Canada).
I looked at the BMW 750i, Audi A8 and Mercedes S550. I've excluded the Merc because I felt too young to be driving it. I'm having a hard time deciding between the A8 and 750 which, after factory rebates, are fairly close in price.
I've excuded the Panamera because I need the 5th seat and, in well-optioned 4S form, it's substantially more money.
Is either car clearly better? How does X drive stack up against Quattro. For reference, I'm currently driving a 535xi and, with snow tires, haven't had any issues.
Thanks.

Quattro is the KING of AWD and definitely Audi knows how to make AWD cars handle well in both dry and wet/snow conditions. I also like the looks of the A8 much more than BMW... but look is personal.
On the Merc, I actually feel like the latest Merc's are very nicely designed and a lot more sporty looking than before and I personally like their new designs better than BMW designs, although can't comment on how they drive as I haven't driven one lately.
Another alternative, which is fast(er), lighter and more of a driver's car would be Audi S6! I don't think they have a 2012 model yet, but I am sure you can find a 2011 model at a good discount. It has the Lamborghini V10 that's an amazing engine and very rare to find these days. I'd pick that car over either 750i or A8!

I have an Audi Q7 S-Line, 4.2 V8, 21" Rims fully loaded. Next best thing to my Porsche. They don't make a V8 anymore but you could pick up used for low price. The S6 and S8 are also great depending what type of vehicle you want during winter.

Thanks for the advice. Looking for new. I drove an S6 a couple of years ago and found the suspension harsh for winter driving over pot-holed streets. I'd also like something a bit bigger. As nice as the Q7 is, I really don't like SUVs much, my wife already drives an SUV and I need something low enough to fit under the Porsche on a lift. Interesting that everyone likes Audi over BMW.

Prior to the Carrera S and the Q7 we had a BMW X5 4.8is and a 335. Trans went out on the 4.8is @ 42,000 and had other issue's. Almost purchase an M5 but to busy interior with to many Switches, Button's and controls. Had Audi's for years and went back and very happy. The Q7 with the adjustable suspension in sport mode handles like a sedan and lowers down to a height of 68" inche's.

We've got 2 997's and 2 Range Rovers. I just test drove an S550 4matic yesterday as a replacement for the older RR. I was really pleased with the drive-ability; good throttle response from the tt V8 and very solid steering response.
I'm not that old either but the S class does drive nicely.
