We had one that we turned into a drag car. We moved the firewall back, stuffed in a big block 460 c.i. bored .135 over and used it to run an 11second 1/4 mile back about 15 years ago. It was pretty badass

Brother had one....he hit second gear hard and the shifter pulled out......I was in the car when he did it....

I had a Mustang II for a year. Same underpinnings but better interior. It could keep up with a VW Bus going uphill, but just barely. After a year I had enough (it also had recurrent electrical problems) and traded it in.

I had a 73 pinto in high school. I hated that car and still do, but I had a friend with a runabout whose father built into a pretty fast street racer. He built up the original 4 banger with a cam, higher compression, headers, weber carbs and a posi rear end.

The local chapter of the SCCA has long had a class for racing them: Formula Pinto. They were the original spec Miata.
