Default Family Car Dilemma .... (Hong Kong)

So the 993 is in long term storage. Will resurrect the car in a few years time when I am back in Europe. Anyway, thats another dilemma, and not for this thread.

I've relocated to Hong Kong and have newborn twin girls. :-)

So I have to decide on a new motor, thats practical and affordable.

I am down to 2 cars :

1. Volvo XC90 - three rows, and I can just about stretch to a model a year or so old most likely the 2.5T, or a 3.2 if I am lucky.

2. Toyota Previa - MPV family bus. Cheaper, and probably more reliable.

I am interested in reliability, economy, usabiity and I need a trunk big enough for a twin buggy folded.

Any input gladly offered, and in particular any leads from HK listers appreciated.

Thanks...

Phil

In before the move.

Not much of a choice. Rather have the Volvo until it breaks down. I'd then want the Toyota.

Jeremy Clarkson loves the XC90 and I can only agree. Great overal performance and solidity although I've never driven a petrol version. The diesel (D5) are rock solid. Very safe car too and that really matters when you have kids. Good luck.

Volvo's haven't been that reliable. A friend of mine bought one and he's had it in the shop several times for various problems which he said seem to be common based to all XC90's. Nice but not very reliable.

Do you have other options other than the Toyota?

Phil,

My wife's Family who live in Hong Kong and a lot of their friends have the Toyota Previa - MPV family bus.

For the twins it will work best.

If parking assist and or back up camera are available I would get it. The Car Parks are brutal.

Thanks for all the feedback. Whats with all the moving threads from OT??? New sheriff in town?!!

What you've all said is exactly what I know already...

I'd rather have the volvo, it has some soul at least, but the reliability is with the toyota, which interests me about as much as a house brick.

hmmm.

Maybe will just go with the Volvo on the grounds of safety and live with the reliability..

I highly doubt that the reliability of the Volvo is THAT dismal. Once you get outside the city there are some nice driving roads.....

I have no experience with this specific Toyota, but I think I would recommend this one! I'm not sure about Volvo in general- but it might be just a personal preference. Never mind! To be honest I doubt that the Volvo is unreliable, like it's mentioned here several times.
And congratulations on the twin girls!
