Corvette Z06 Carbon Edition : Strange bedfellows
Some times unlikely characters share the same bed and that is the case with my new addition. 2011 Z06 carbon edition.
I been looking for an "easy" DE and street sports car for couple months now. The biggest mistake I made after getting my Cup car was selling the RS. I really miss the occasional strode in the neighborhood in a well appointed racer and yes, I get burn out from driving the Cup and desperately need a easy ride on the track when I ... and the Cup need a break.
I looked high and low and considered all sorts of cars ranges from Spyder to Cayman R, another RS, Audi R8, 996 GT3/Cup etc. I have always briefly consider Z06 due to it's heroic performance on the track but the poor fit and finish have kept me away for the past 6 years. This year to celebrate (spike sales interest) the 24 hours Le mans victory Chevy released a limited Z06 Carbon Edition with all the performance goodies from ZR1 namely the CC brakes, better shocks and tons of carbon bits and clean up the interior significantly with well appointed alcantera touches. It really got my attention when the same beast pull a 7:22 at Nürburgring which is more than 10 seconds faster than the 7.2 GT3 RS. I decided to visit my friendly local Chevy dealer and check out this carbon Z06. The distinct color with black contrast wheels and accents along with giant CC brakes, and the much improved interior with alcantera looks great.
Chevy did a good job with this Carbon Edition Z06. First mod ... GT2 seats lol!
Oh yeah! big *** Brembo CC brakes and 19" wheel front 20" wheel rear
Carbon front lip and all business exhaust tips ... did someone say Akrapovic? lol
Sweet color combo. This Z06 got some nice curves!
Color stitching and alcantera appointed interior. I like how they kept the center console simple.
LOVE the heads up display! Now I can concentrate driving on the track and don't have to look down to see RPM/speed

Great car, and thanks for the pictures. I looked at one a couple of months ago, and I was very impressed. After you take it to the track, please share your thoughts.

Hi Dr. Mike,
Enjoy in good health!
FYI: A buddy of mine is frequently tracking his ZR1 (and you mentioned your Z06 has its brake set up) and he has swapped out the ceramics for steel (I assume to save the high replacement costs over time). PM me if you want to know what steel units he is using and I will get the specs and info for you.
Cheers!

put a disclaimer in subject line. Z06 gross!!!
lol, just kidding. to each their own i guess. can't say i like Z06 at all and after having driven C6 and heavily modded C5 its such different character than a GT Porsche that I would be tired of it very quickly especially if street driven. yes on track, they are fun but different kind of fun for me. as in, i would rather be wringing out an M3 any day. on street, they are just horrible. it just feels cheap. the seats are especially bad but looks like you will be putting porsche seats in it. I would bet you will also replace everything else besides seat with porsche emblem shortly afterwards. good luck with the experiment!
ps, the hud in them really annoy me rather than help. don't see them in cup car do you? also don't help that the font are straight out of knight rider era!

Shes beautiful!!! I miss my Z06, but there is definitely a different feel to the two cars. Question for you, did they address the dry sump issue over the past few years? Ive dropped by dealers over the last couple years and havent heard anything. The dry sump was the reason I ended up getting rid of my Z06 -- but I still miss that visceral feel when hitting the throttle!!!

They fixed the sump cavitation issues in 2009 with a new tank design and a few other pieces. Great car. Enjoy.
