Default Ridiculous BMW dealer pricing

So my 535i just turned 4 years old and the free maintenance period has now expired.

Car is due for an oil change, so this morning I take to the dealer. The service advisor starts going through what work is due. Car has just over 40k on the clock.

Here is what he suggested:

Standard scope (basically plug it into the computer and look for fault codes) $68

Oil change $130

Air Intake Service $180. "What's that?" I ask. "Oh, we change your air filter."

The SA then explains that the spark plugs should be replaced also.

Wait for it....

Wait for it...

And the cost will be $588

I told them to just change the oil.

Checked online pricing: Air filter is $28. Spark plugs are $17 each, but you need a special 12 point socket that is another $15.

I think my headlight fluid needs replacing soon as well...

Did they give you the price on extending your maintenance plan? Crazy.

I just bought a BMW, and had it inspected by the dealer for a PPI.

$164 for an alignment (I'm a service advisor, I can do it at work for free)
$96.75 to replace a tail light bulb (cost of the bulb....)
$145.35 cabin air filters ($15.00, and 5 seconds to replace)
$260 Serpentine belts ($12.00 and learning how to do it)
$187.51 sway bar drop links... each... ($30.00 each part, can do easily at home/work)

they do have some insane labor rates

Between years 4 and 6 on my 330 my extended warranty repairs were well over $10K. Mileage was 50-79K.

Consider yourself warned.

I put the 100,000 mile warranty back in the day on my 93 Taurus SHO. Ford lost money on that one.

It is a CPO vehicle with warranty for two more years or up to 100k miles.

You don't need a "special 12 point" tool for the plugs. You just need a regular 12 point socket.

Replace plugs at 40k mi? What does the book say?

Find another dealer. Once you're out of warranty, find an independent.

There is a difference between an extended warranty and an extended maintenance service agreement. You're talking extended warranty, I think he's talking service agreement.

Nope. Just a POS. And it still had a long list of stuff that wasn't right when I traded it. Good riddance.

We took my wife's 3 series wagon to Coronado. Pulled into the Peohes parking lot for dinner, car had barely turned 50K. Parked crooked, put it in reverse to straighten out the car and got VROOOM, didn't budge.... Worst thing was that my kids were looking forward to their first Disney trip that next morning.

Had it flat-bedded to BMW SD, they mistakenly had it coded as CPO and covered the entire cost of the new transmission. Not cheap but was a great driving car...

Im sorry, but any one who pays for an oil change that cost 130 should be embarassed.....actually, paying for an oil change period they should be. Man up.
