Flat-plane crank Z06 @~$85k OR 992GT3 @~$150k?
I'm not one for speculative threads, but in a time of extreme home-boundedness and lack of new car info, I find my mind wandering. And it wanders to the 992 GT3, which after seeing some mule shots leaves me.. unmoved. When i consider the likely starting price around $150k plus I'm even more.. unmoved. Then i see some admittedly juicy photoshops of the upcoming Z06 and it's 5.5L flat-plane crank engine, which should rev to between 8500 and 9000 rpm, spit out 600-plus horsepower, and shriek like something from Ferrari... and i'm moved. i really start thinking that maybe the C8 with some flares is actually not as fugly as i had thought. and at sub $100k, it's suddenly, almost unavoidably moving to me. I really disliked corvettes up to the c7, but this c8 Z06 is moving into exotica-levels of desirability for less than the price of a gt4. It makes me really start to question my allegiance to the GT3 when something this bad-*** is available for almost half the price.
anyone else? If you had to choose ONE..

I don't think the C8 Z06 will be sub 100k when properly spec'd.
MSRP might be sub 90k, but good luck buying one at that price.

If they had put a manual in the C8/ Z06 - they would have my attention.

I question if it will be FPC and rev to 9k. It seems generally any FPC over 5L gets sketchy. Didn't Ford have issues with the 5.2L in the GT350? I would think 5.5L would be even more difficult and not cheap to do right.
That being said, the Z06 has my interest. I think it will be a lot of bang for the buck and the new renders look significantly better than the current C8 (which I am not a fan of aesthetically).

I will finally be in a position to buy a new GT3 sometime next year (dream car that I will keep for forever).
But, if the Z06 does come out with a high RPM FPL engine, and price delta from a GT3 and considering the amount of positive reviews from journalists and owners of the base car, I’d be crazy not to at least give it a try. I’m not crazy about the looks or reputation of the corvette (even though my dad owned a couple back in the day - ‘63 convertible and 73’), but it has been a performer the last few generations. The interior does look vastly improved in terms of quality and design, though not at Porsche’s level. I plan on at least test driving one and keeping an open mind.

I think this is a great option. However, i specced a 2020 C8 for the Z51 Cab and the options i wanted - and its $85K. I am guessing the Z06 will be $110-$130 the options, you'd "need". But thats still a bargain. Thats 718 Spyder price range. But way higher levels of performance. At $120K those are the 2 cars that are interesting to me. I am / would lean Z06. i know its looks are polarizing - but i like it. In person, it looks good. Mid engine and FPC for $120K - whats not to like.

Agree with Holdens. While the Z06 is compelling on paper, no manual option is a non-starter.

I was not a big fan of the new C8 from the pictures and in person at Daytona, but I have a friend who got an early allocation for one, and I got to drive it. It's an awesome drive and the interior touch surfaces were really good. I'm still not sold on the looks, but the Z06 pictured looks sharp.

Based on reviews, there is no doubt that they did a great job on the C8 but..... the biggest issue for me is its size. Its substantially bigger than a 992. Heck, its even bigger that a 488. As a result, its a car that probably won't work very well on roads in the ROW. If they wanted to make a truly global car, they should have made it smaller. Also, I remain to be convinced on build and engineering quality.

No way will the .2 GT3 MSRP be 150. 992.1 GT3 MSRP will be a minimum of 160K, to start an all new generation. Properly specced, it will cost 180-190, so more twice as much as a Z51 or GS. Not quite twice as much as a properly specced Z06.

I was thinking the same. A year before I would never consider a Corvette. But a natural aspirated mid engine that supposedly will rev to 8500 or 9000 rpms and has over 600 hp, will make me think twice. On top of that, it is supposed to sound more like a Ferrari. (Funny thing, the Corvette guys want a turbo engine and its unique sound). What is there not to like. My biggest worry would be reliability, but I’m intrigued.
So I’m in the same boat as you CAlexio.
