Macan vs Audi Q5D

I drove a Q5 diesel a few months ago too, and was very impressed as well.
Pluses: Much better fuel economy, 20-25% less expensive, available now
Minuses: Not a Porsche, handling probably not going to be as sharp

If handling and fun at driving is your thing, then wait for the Macan. I own an SQ5, done about 90,000 km in it, so I know the car pretty well
It's a great car and I absolutely love it.... But the driving experince will be nowhere near the experience porsche offers.
The SQ5 and even more so, the Q5, understeer a lot, which isn't really fun. OTOH, it's an SUV and a car like that has in 90% of all cases a different purpose than offering superb handling. For me it's my businesscar, doing lots of km and that is where the car really shines. I've traded the SQ5 in for an Audi A6 Avant. I wanted the Macan, but since not all options are available yet and they put the wrong diesel engine in the car, I decided to get another Audi with the same diesel engine like in my SQ5.
Macan will be a great car, but more focussed on the driving experience than on practicallity or utillity.
Two different cars, for different purposes, but with a lot of overlapping features. You can't really go wrong with both.

My SQ5 manages to get from 0-62mph in 5.1 sec, yet it achieves an average of about 36.5 mpg. I drive easily from Switzerland to Belgium and halfway back (approx. 1250km) on one tank of diesel, with an average speed of 160-180km/h on the Autobahn.
I like diesel engines in these kind of cars. They're powerful (loads of low end torque) and are very economical at the same time. That's why I ordered the A6 Avant with the same engine. Ideal as a business car / family car/ daily driver.

It's a shame Porsche doesn't offer the Cayenne S Diesel in the US. A smooth V8 diesel with 382hp and 627lb-ft available from 2000rpm

You can't go wrong with either car. I love the SQ5, but the Macan is a Porsche and probably feels and drives like a Porsche. Something the SQ5 can't offer you.
