Porsche vs BMW

On the contrary, BMW’s star is rising.
Lots of comments about BMW across the German car sites. Many are from well-experienced souls (many trips around the sun) who last owned a BMW 20+ years ago.
BMW can’t sell enough X3s. It is a darn near perfect car. BMW has the class leading straight 6. They have a darn good V8 after working out issues in the first production years.
If you don’t like BMW, don’t buy one. If you don’t like a Macan, don’t buy one. BMW in fact is seeing success in the marketplace.
Porsche has made some recent significant mistakes, for example cooling system hardware (water pump, thermostat, coolant shutoff valve) on the current EA825 and EA839 V-engines. $6k repair costs for these Porsche engineering fails is reason to not buy a Porsche. And we haven’t mentioned transfer cases or timing covers yet…

Seems like a chocolate or vanilla argument to me. Buy what you like, but be objective about it and stop trying to justify your purchase (both sides). I mean why would you care what other people think or buy.
what is likely true is that the macan is better at some things and the X3 is better at some things.
If I had to put a stake in the ground, I believe that Porsche products in general tend to deliver. Where BMW is more hit or miss and highly dependent on model or year. And with maintenance and cost both have there issues. Having driven many of both, I would say Porsches handle better in the twisties and BMW is better straight line. But there are exceptions to that rule.

Three Wheelin'
Are BMW's still on stop sale? We were shopping for my wife a few weeks ago and all the SUV's except the X3 were locked down because of a brake recall issue.

I would say the X3 is a better value *for most people*. The engines are better and you get more standard features and space.
but i value things like a good stereo, low NVH, good steering feedback, air suspension, dct gearbox vs torque converter, physical gauge cluster, value retention.
to get alot of the features in the macan s or gts you need to step up to X5 or similar sized vehicles which handle like boats.

BMW is definitely selling a lot of cars. IMO that is the problem. They no are longer making cars for driving enthusiasts, more like mass market transport devices. Essentially a German Lexus.
This is from a 20+ year owner of many BMWs. We bought my wife an X5 M60 last year. It is powerful, comfortable enough, but overloaded with electronic gimmicks and more annoying than fun to drive.
Just my recent experience and opinion - not trying to change anyone's mind.

Advanced
I see 20+ variations of a BMW SUV (X2, X3, X5, X7) on my commute for every one Cayenne or Macan. Brand dilution is a thing.

Sorry you feel that way, as can only be assessed by the quoted post. It’s just a car. A depreciating inanimate piece of plastic and steel. It really doesn’t matter.
