Default 2018 Mecan Battery

Hi everyone, I will be needing to replace the battery for a 2018 Mecan S soon. I'm wanting to ask what about a good stock replacement and if there is any reason to stick with a Porsche branded battery. Thanks.

I changed it several months ago on our '18 Sport Edition with an EverStart H8 AGM ($179, I think) from Walmart. And also bought an iCarSoft scanner to code it, and saved A TON of money over an OEM battery (and even more if you'd pay for installation). I'd charge it to 100% before installing it. It extends their life, for what I've read. By the way, my battery was made in Germany, as well as H6s and H7s. But checked for an H6 for another car, and it was made in China now, and not by Clarios (formerly Johnson Controls) anymore. So not sure about H8s. Maybe the Chinese ones are good too, but haven't done any research. Hopefully H8s are still German-made. Otherwise, try Interstate (like the Costco ones), which are only marginally more expensive, and made by Clarios, I think. Hope this helps.

I started doing price checks earlier this week for a 2017 Macan battery. An independent Euro mechanic shop in my area offers 3 choices:
1. Porsche OEM battery (starting at $550)
2. Interstate (starting at $300)
3. NAPA (starting at $275)
plus labor & tax.

When I asked about a few other brands, the service advisor said it really does not matter too much. However, he shared that they have been using these brands for years, and rarely have warranty replacement issues.

Are you getting any errors or warning signs of a weak AGM battery? For my 2017 Macan, engine start/stop no longer works unless the vehicle has been driven for 30-45 minutes. I plan to proactively replace the battery and get a few other services done now. . . even though the local Porche dealership gave the battery an "OK" / Green checkmark during a Free service analysis last month.

I would get an absorbed glass mat (AGM) battery. Walmart seems to have the best prices -- and they deliver for free. I would not get a Porsche battery as they have poor specs and a short warrarty (not to mention their generally high prices). If you're going to install it yourself or have an indy install it, make sure the new battery is "registered" so that the car will know when and how much to charge. Walmart lists group H8 or 49 as fitting(they're the same size). Although you can get a smaller battery, I would buy the largest battery (H8 or 49). Walmart shows an Everstart and AC Delco. I bought an Everstart for a Jaguar I used to have and the AC Delco for my wife's MB. They have the same specs and are probably the same except for the labels, the price (AC Delco costs more) and warranty (Everstart has a 48 month warranty whereas AC Delco has a 36 month warranty). I installed both myself but neither car required the battery to be registered.

My local dealership wanted $1,200 to change my battery which I thought was ridiculously pricey, even by Porsche standards. The Varta battery is nothing special. I was able to change the battery myself at a fraction of the cost with a Craftsman Rachet Toolset at the following:

$250 - O' Reilly Super Start Platinum AGM Top Post Battery Group Size 49 H8
https://www.oreillyauto.com/detail/c...h8/ssbu/49pltj

$50 - Autel MaxiAP AP200 to register the new battery.

Installation took about two hours, but mostly because I took my time so as not to mess anything up.

When I bought mine a few months ago, Walmart had the best price and the best warranty. They deliver for free too. My Walmart battery was made in Germany by the same company that makes the Porsche Varta batteries. You can take your old battery to Autozone for a store credit.

What year Macan do you have? I've heard the Autel AP200 only works on vehicles up to year 2017. There isn't much difference between the 2017 & 2018 Macans but I haven't heard of anyone using it on the 2018 yet.

It's a 2018. Any idea if this one works?

I changed the battery on our '18 Sport Edition 2.0T with an H8 AGM from Walmart, which was made by Clarios in Germany. Now they're all Chinese, so not sure of the quality. And I coded it with an iCarsoft with multiple brands, but I think it uses the V2.0 version. It was very tricky to code it, but once you learn that you need 11 digits for the part #, and 15 for the s/n, piece of cake. I used Porsche's battery p/n (95861109521), and the battery's actual s/n, but added zeroes at the beginning to make it 15 digits. Hope this helps.

I'll also endorse the EverStart Walmart battery made in Germany. I like Walmart because you can check the date codes however for the H8 I had it delivered to my door since I just didn't feel like lugging one to the car and fortunately it was the same month. I also used an iCarsoft CRMAX to register the battery in a few minutes. A few years ago I was told by the Porsche dealer where I bought my Cayman that they don't bother with Porsche batteries because they don't travel well from Germany. Maybe true, maybe not but they warranty replaced the battery of interest with an Interstate

Another endorsement for the battery from Wally world. No issues 3 years and 25k miles later. Hook up another battery or vehicle to the jumper terminals in the front if you want to avoid the issues that come with losing power. Just be careful not to touch the battery terminals to anything conductive if you do this.

A note on the iCarSoft naming convention. This is what I got from iCarSoft support when I asked them about P700 vs POR v2.0:
P700 V2. is a private label item, which has the same functions as POR V2.0.

I have tried to buy two different code scanners, and they are not able to work with the Macan to register the new battery I just installed. Is there anyone in the Bellevue or Seattle area that would let me use their scanner? I would be willing to rent it. The registration probably could be done at your place. Sorry you are having issues. I bought the icarsoft PORV3.0 ($189 Amazon) and it has the battery reset feature. I have as yet only used it to reset the oil reminder, and it worked for that.
