cross shopping-- Audi SQ8 v Macan GTS
I know one is considered small and the other mid sized performance SUV, but has anyone crossed shopped these 2 models?
Both of these vehicles are the highest rated in their respective category.
The Audi has the V8 with 500 HP versus the 2.9L TT in the Porsche GTS
Curious what any of you have discovered. I am test driving the Audi today.
cheers,
NAV

SQ8 far more powerful and larger than the Macan. I am sitting in a Macan loaner as I write this, waiting for my Cayenne tires to be replaced.
Macan is quite a down-segment offering compared to the Q8/Cayenne platform.
Please answer this question: what size car do you need?

Fair question.
It only the wife and I, with an occasional guest in the back seat.
Roomy is nice, but i don't want super large.
The larger trunk area in the SQ8 would be nice, but not a deal breaker not having it in the GTS.

Advanced
I will also add that the Macan feels more agile...and the turbo just rips!!

Like mentioned they are apples to oranges. Want comfort, space, lots of torque go with the Audi. Want smaller, compact, more fun to drive and not worried about carrying "stuff" go with the Macan GTS.

Macan GTS vs X3M40i is the proper comparison.
If you are optioning the Macan GTS with all the goodies, it’s a better car than the X3. If you are doing a “base” low option GTS, the X3M40i is quite competitive.

I considered both the SQ8 and a new GTS when replacing my '17 Macan GTS a few months ago. I rarely have more than 1 passenger with me (empty nesters) so the larger back seat in the SQ8 would have been a very minor benefit for me, but may be critical to others.
The cars have similar price points, and similar pace (although delivered quite differently).
They are both great cars but what it came down to for me was focus on luxury vs focus on sportiness.
The SQ8 felt like a big, heavy, super torquey, luxurious ride. The Macan GTS was much lighter on it's feet, is sportier inside (can't get a RaceTex steering wheel on a SQ8...), has a much more interesting options list, and I love the PSCBs and GT style wheels. In the end of the day I was looking for the most sporting driving experience I could find with a class III hitch, which is why I ended up ordering a GTS.
What did you think after driving the Audi?
GTS parked next an SQ8 - for those that are interested, Gentian Blue is a bit different than Navarra Blue. I wasn't sure until I parked them next to each other myself.

I have a friend that has an S8 and I have a Macan S. If you're not constantly hauling extra adult passengers or need the extra luggage space, the Macan GTS would be my choice. If you want the SUV feel, with luxury and power, and not the sport sedan feel, go with the S8.
Cargo space-wise, the Macan is not bad with both rear seats folded down. I can fit my race bike, and gear in the trunk without removing a wheel, or changing the driver's seat position.

SQ8 is very nice luxury-performance SUV, but too big and too heavy to be as fun/tossable as the Macan (performance-luxury SUV). Depends what you prioritize.
If you don't like to "attack" a nice curvy road, get the SQ8.

Macan GTS vs SQ5 is more like it....sticking with Audi anyway.

All,
after test driving the SQ8, i decided the Macan GTS was the right size. We did not need all the extra space and girth in the SQ8. It is a fabulous car, maybe suited for a family with kids.
Most SQ8's are stuck in port now, and they will be sold as 2023's, even though we are well into 2024.
I placed an order, locked today, for a GTS. I am more than thrilled.
Thanks for all the advice.
