Default How can I close the hood with the battery maintainer hooked up?

I have the Porsche Chargomat and charge my battery once per week. Currently I have to park my car outside and don't want to have the hood open the entire time when I charge the battery. With the OEM connectors, I can't close the hood and it has to stay up while I charge the battery. With the Macan you are not supposed to use the cigarette lighter connector to charge the battery. Are there any simple tricks to hook up the chargomat and close the hood while charging the battery? Thank you in advance!

You have a Ctek charger. Just use the eyelet adapter and/or the Ctek extension cable to attach to the positive and negative jumper posts. You will need to buy the proper bolt to thread into the top of the positive jumper post; it is M8x12mm, I think. It works quite well.

By the way, I picked up this idea from this post: https://www.macanforums.co.uk/viewto...12535&start=20

Give credit...

I have seen a bunch of photos where lines are attached to the two posts and the lines are led out towards the windshield for easy connection.

I have a 2021 2.0L any use the Ctek plugged into the cigarette lighter without any issues, even for as long as a month. Just FYI

Thank you for the confirmation. This is one of the things where you read a rumor somewhere and other people repeat it and at one point you firmly believe it! I will try it next time and let you all know.

The only draw back on using the cigarette lighter is if there is a temporary power outage, it will not restart the CTEK.

I just ordered a 2024 Macan S without the smokers' package. Will I get a cigarette lighter or 12 volt socket? If so, is the socket "live" all the time or does it shut off when the car is off? If it's not live when the car is turned off, you can't plug in a charger.

The power stays on for 15 minutes, or so, to the auxiliary power source. If you are connected before the power goes off it will continue unless interrupted by such as a power outage. If you connect under the hood after a power outage, power will be restored.

I just came back from the car wash and hooked up the chargomat on the 12V socket in the trunk. As recommended by others, I did it right after I turned off the car. It worked right away, no issues whatsoever. It jumped right to the second light, since I drove quite a bit before I hooked it up. I will monitor and report but if this works, that would be awsome, I would keep it on all the time and don't have to be worried about the open hood in the driveway. Thank you everyone for your help, really appreciate it!!!

I use the cigarette lighter in my 992 which isn't driven during the winter. I presume the cig lighter in the Macan hatch would serve that purpose. Are there any Macan models that do not have that? With the 992 I have to check to make sure the charger doesn't turn off after a while. It helps if I leave the ignition set to accessory for about 90 seconds after I make the charger connection. That said, it's a LiIon battery so don't know if that procedure is helpful with a leaddie and a Macan.

My Macan is hooked up right now, has been for about a week and everything is fine. I hook it up if it’s going to sit for 2-3 days or more. It will be hooked up for all March and I don’t expect any problems as I have left it on for a month in the past.

The only issue as pointed out earlier is that if there is a power loss the cigarette lighter will not “reactivate”, which is the only disadvantage of using the lighter socket.

I dunno, it's just so easy to use the Ctek setup with the jumper posts and not have to worry about any power interruptions. But I live in the mountains and power outages are way too frequent.

I hook up my Macan only here and there and not over a longer period, therefore don't care about any power interruptions. If it happens, than I reconnect again or leave it as is and do it again next time I want to charge my car. The way I do it now is so much more convenient, takes just 1 minute or less and I can leave everything closed/locked and park the car outside.
