Default Macan Burmester system

I dropped off my car for service and got a 2023 base macan as a loaner. It interestingly has a Burmester system.
I have been unimpressed with it and note that even and 0 bass the speakers rattle.

Anyone notice the same?

Cheers!

We have it in our 2022 GTS. I agree it's disappointing. It sounds way better than Bose, but still for the price it's not that great. The B&W system in my 2018 Volvo SUV sounded better. Personally I think it's because the Macan interior just as bad acoustics.

I will say that ours does not rattle at all. Probably blown out by prior drivers, being a loaner car LOL.

The best I ever has was a Nakamichi in Lexus LS. But Burmeister is fine to me. When you toss in the GTS engine sound and road noise, to me it is as good as it’s gonna get.

Very pleased with mine, i spent a couple of hours setting it up when i got the car.

No rattle, wonder if there's a blown speaker?

I have tried all three options. The standard sounded best to me but is still not very good. I listen to the standard system with the bass turned down -3 and the treble flat.

So if you compare any of the Porsche options of value vesrus cost, it's difficult to justify many of them. The Porsche tax is high.
That holds true with the Burmester. That said, I have not found a rattle in mine and I believe the sound is extremely good for a car system and is much better than the Bose to my ears.
Happy listener here.

Not all Burmesters are created equal. I believe the drivers are different between models, as well as different brands (MB Burmester used paper cones!) and obviously cabin acoustics/placement/etc are all different.

That being said, comparing Bose vs Burmester is a noticeable difference (whether its worth the additional money is up to you), but you are not getting Nakamichi or even B&W sound. there's no equalizer and has limited adjustments that are made for non-audiophiles grouped as "live" or "acoustic".

Bose was too boomy, I like driving with sunroof/windows open if weather permits and that was the decision point for me to pay the Burmester surcharge for more power and more clear sound. Worth the upcharge to me, but YMMV. I have zero rattles.

The Burmester system sounds great!

...there's ALWAYS one naysayer "know better than everyone else" lurking...

I'd say there's something wrong with that loaner... maybe somebody BLASTED it and blew a speaker.

I wasn't that impressed with the Burmester system, either. It was a bit better than the Bose, but it wasn't worth the extra $ for me, so I just stuck with the Bose. The Meridian system in my 2021 Defender blows the Bose and Burmester out of the water, and the Meridian Surround in my old 2017 LR Discovery was one of the best I've heard. Only the Bowers & Wilkins in the Volvo V90, Naim in the Bentley Flying Spur and the Meridian Signature in the new L460 Range Rover sounded better IMO.

Bowers & Wilkins in our 2018 XC90 (no longer own) was the best I have ever heard in any car. It's about the only thing I miss about that car. Never heard the Bentley but I'm sure impressive.

It was - a friend of mine took a 2021 Flying Spur in on trade at his dealership. He parked it outside about 30 feet from the dealer, turned the bass all the way up, and that thing was shaking a pen on his desk from 30 feet away and though a glass wall. It was ridiculous. The Meridian Signature in the new Range Rover had the best surround sound, the best clarity and it was perfectly balanced - bass, mids and highs are all treated equally in that system.

I have been streaming spotify via bluetooth on my Burmester with android phone for over a year. I switched to iphone today and after pairing streamed spotify and did not get full functionality. When I hit the shuffle button on PCM it does not give me the red underline and I get the following message

"functionality not currently available".

Any thoughts?

That holds true with the Burmester.
Not sure why people fail to realize this. Even including the cost of installation labor, ANY mid-grade aftermarket sound system is half the cost and objectively better than anything Porsche offers.

Honestly the sound system in my gf's base Tesla Model 3 sounds better than anything Porsche offers.
