Default Wheel locks

Is there some sort of record (VIN coded?) for the wheel lock that comes with the Macan? Are they all different and individually coded or not? I ask beacuse I just about lost mine after putting my new HREs on the car (left it on the last wheel I changed) and almost drove off with it still on the wheel. Would have lost it for sure. Now I am thinking of getting a backup or spare just in case. But I am not sure how you would order one if they are specific to what's on the car.

It would be a lot cheaper to write a sticky note to your self and put it on the one button you have to turn off before lift off. That might be the one that tells you are too close to anything. This note will say 'Hey Stupid, retrieve your lock socket'.

I think they are specific to model, at most... certainly not specific to the VIN (that would require tooling for each vehicle sold). Most likely, they are specific to the lug nuts used, which could be used on several models.

Thanks to rdubu and that link, I looked at my current removal key and found some numbers inscribed inside it. In my case "ABC 56", which corresponds to the 20mm 20 spline key. Will see if I can order from the dealer or Suncoast.

Yeah, and what do you do when the dealer or tire shop looses it after a brake bleed or tire change and you don't notice the key is not in its place until you have a flat out on the road?

My tire store hands it to me. The point is after that it is your problem.

I just bought 4 new standard lug bolts from Sunset since I swap summer and winter wheel/tire sets. Problem solved as I have no worries about wheel theft

Considered doing that as well. The fact you can remove the lock bolts by hammering a socket over them does not instill a lot of confidence either. But the HREs are very valuable and I do drive occasionally to the Bay Area and LA and parking the car for any length of time there makes me nervous.

Look up "Lug Nut Remover"...you aren't safe from someone that wants them.
