3G Wireless Network Sunset & Turndown
We just received an email from Porsche USA titled "3G network sunset notice and impact to Porsche Car Connect services". Wireless carriers are abandoning 3G. Searching the Porsche website it says that the sunset affects 2017-2018 Macans * come February 22, 2022 with the caveat:
" * Standard or optional equipment of Connect or Connect Plus. All Vodafone offered Car Connect services are impacted. Navigation & Infotainment services will not be affected and will continue to work beyond the 3G Wireless Network Turndown."
Plus: "If you received an email stating that your vehicle is eligible for a technology upgrade, please schedule an appointment with your authorized Porsche dealer to perform the upgrade for your vehicle before February 22, 2022 to maintain Connect functionality. As a Porsche Car Connect Services customer, we are pleased to offer you an opportunity to purchase a technology upgrade** to replace the existing 3G connectivity module with 4G LTE one. This product will be available at your authorized Porsche dealership beginning in late February 2022."
Haven't looked into Porsche Connect Services since new Macan purchase in 2018. At that time PC Services was a big "nothingburger" for us. Anything new and "got to have" in the Porsche Connect services? Anyone determine what the upgrade to the 4G module will cost?

Aside from Porsche Connect Plus, the Vehicle Tracking System (VTS) runs on the going-away 3G network. Porsche doesn't mention VTS in their email or other notices regarding "3G network sunset notice". That alone should make the 4G upgrade important and something cars under warranty should receive free of charge, yes? Will Porsche step-up and provide the upgrade to keep VTS alive?
