Default Put coolant fluid in the WS washer reservoir

Not paying attention, just grabbed a jug that said pre mixed 50/50. Saw it was green when I poured it into the WS fluid reservoir, and stopped.

I have one of those hand pumps for siphoning. But the reservoir has an inside cap that prevents the hose from going in.

So with hood open, I put a bucket propped on each side where the WS squirters spray, held the spray stalk till empty, repeat with water to get the last out. Then add water till I can get some more real thing.

I post this in case you have done as dumb and can make me feel better.

YIKES!

...and, the Macan does not use green coolant. As an OAT type of coolant, it should be orange, yellow, red or purple. In my Macan it looks pink/purple.

Eh, I doubt that'd hurt anything. Not a good look to spray toxic glycol coolant around when you hit your washers, but a small quantity in the reservoir as a result of a one-time goofup is probably OK.

Porsche is specific about the type of washer fluid to use and it's not your typical stuff from the local auto parts store.

Lol. We've all done that sort of thing. Doubtful it was harmful to the washer system, and even if it was there are many more expensive things you could screw up on your Porsche.

Agreed, that's why I was on way to dealer, but closed.

Porsche coolant is pink.

Flushing the system as you did, you should be fine.

Of course they do! Sorry, I won't buy into Porsche-Approved washer fluid unless someone can show me the proof of why it has to be used.

What's special about Porsche window washer fluid and should I really care? Seems a bit **** to me.

I’ve used non-Porsche approved washer fluid in my Porsches over the last 20 years and never, ever had any issues. In fact, the generic washer fluid (like Prestone) gives a better result than the branded Porsche stuff does.

Not sure if it's still true but some years ago, Porsche used two types of windshield washer fluid: one for summer and one for winter. I was told by a Porsche tech that cars delivered and serviced in the North use the winter type exclusively. As I don't drive my 911 often in the rain and never in snow, and have it serviced by the dealer annually, I not sure what fluid they use to top off now. As to my soon (??) to arrive Macan that will be driven year-round, I'll probably top off with Prestone or some generic brand as necessary. Of course, I'll try not to use 50/50 engine coolant.

My go to in warm CA the last 32 years, then freezing NC, and now as been water plus a few drops of Griot's car wash. If it's good for the paint, must be ok for the WS.

But that tank depletes so quickly I'm going to need a couple jugs of the Porsche stuff. Just for the safe anti freeze content I need here.

Everyone, don't forget to get the Porsche air for your tires while you're at the dealership.

I've been driving Porsches for 35 years (since I was 16) and not once have I ever used Porsche branded windshield washer fluid.

I don't like the Rain-X fluid with the Rain-X mixed in either as it makes the wipers hop as it gets old. PIAA silicone wiper blade refills into the OEM wipers, treat the windshield and other glass with the PIAA treatment packet that comes with the blade refills, and use Prestone windshield washer fluid - the winter one if you live where it's cold in the winter and the Bug Off one in the summer that has a checical to help dissolve the enzymes of the bug carcasses.

I can assure you that I'm not **** about using Porsche-labelled items (case in point-ATTURO tires are certainly not N-rated) but, after reading the owner's manual and the warning that certain windshield washer solutions can damage the plastic headlight lenses, I decided not to risk damaging such expensive items by using inferior stuff. I did some research and found NEXTZETT Kristallklar Premium concentrate for normal weather and EINZETT Anti-Frost Plus Concentrate. Both state on their labels that they're approved for plastic headlight lenses and very effective. These are German products imported by Einzett NA in Austin, TX. I can't recall where I ordered the two but do a little searching on line and I'm sure you'll find suppliers.

living in Canada we use winter WS fluid year round and after +20 years of Porsche ownership never had any issues re brand.

never added glycol to the WS washer system; would flush that out of there asap and refresh multiple times with proper washer fluid throughout the system.
