Yes. Well. Sort of. I had a 911. Bought a Macan. And kept the 911.

Edit. Reread your original post. I'm confused. Are you moving FROM a 911 to a Macan or vice versa?

I just traded in my 2014 991.1 Carrera S (manual, PSE, SC, PASM Sport) for a 2021 Macan GTS.
Loved the 911, but a road trip with my wife Los Angeles -> Sedona -> Las Vegas -> back sealed the deal.
Very happy so far.

I don't have either. I'm trying to decide whether I keep my '15 A8 and add a 911 or dump the A8 and just have one car - ie the Macan. That's why I was curious if anyone has gone from a 911 to a Macan. Basically seeking some comfort level to switch focus off the 911. It's all madness!!

FWIW, I was just listening to this today on my podcast app -- fast forward to 1:51:51

"like a rally car ... best steering [for an SUV], built according to Porsche ethos, I've enjoyed every Macan I've ever driven"

I will be. Bought my second Dream Spec back in January, 2019 911 Targa 4S - CWM/Espresso, Brown Top (had a 2018, 911 Agate CPO prior to that for 1 1/2 years). Total BLAST to drive. Got tons of looks and compliments even from Cab owners. Sold it last month, still sick to my stomach. Had to.

I'm 6'4" w/ 8 Back Procedures. My 3rd Back Surgery did not go well last July. I struggled getting in & out. We are ordering a Macan S in January. We could afford both, however carrying costs on the Targa are over $400/month, which is hard to justify for driving not even part time. We had the Macan a couple of times for a loaner. Really fun to drive. I never did any high speed stuff, I was more into 15-35 MPH curved roads driving. A Macan can do well on those.

Still... a 911 is the ultimate, period.

Get a 991.2 w/ LCA.

I have both a 991.2 C2S/X51 and a Macan Turbo in my tite 2 car garage. Wifey has an RX 350 in her 1 car garage.
I love both but the 911 is more of a blast to drive: 3.0 sec 0-60 versus 4.2 sec. My Macan has 2 year of CPO remaining. Will add a Cobb or other tune by then.

If shopping new, Id also consider a 4.0 Cayman GTS with PDK. That will be pretty quick, fun to drive, and even smaller than a 911. But no sunroof option :-(

How do you avoid the popo with your paint scheme? If you dodge them once I would think they would be waiting for you down the road. What's your magic?

To be honest. they dont seem to pay any special attention to mine. Interstate traffic moves fast here. i generally get a few fast ones in front and follow at a safe distance. But I do let er rip on the long and curvey ramps we have around here.
Plus, using Waze and an R7 also help.

I recently traded my 2014 911 Carrera for a 2018 Macan GTS. Prior to the 911 I had a 2015 Cayman. Three totally different cars in my opinion. Call me a heretic but I liked the handling of the mid-engine Cayman better than the rear engine 911. I don't track my cars so we're talking occasional spirited street driving... I gave up the Cayman because it was a manual transmission and my knee and ankle issues were doing battle with the clutch gods and defeat was inevitable. The 911 with the awesome PDK was just the ticket and a 911 was something I had lusted for since high school 50 years ago! But as the knee continues to age, getting out if the 911 wasn't getting any easier. (Also, neither the Cayman or the 911 is that comfortable on road trips due to the stiff suspension the engine and road noise. Definitely can't appreciate the Bose stereo system at 80+ mph on the interstate.) I figured my knee had another year or so before I'd lose that war so I started looking at the Macan - no rush, just looking I told myself. But the stock market has been on fire and I found a 2018 GTS essentially fully loaded with 3 yr CPO warranty and only 21K miles, so why put off the inevitable? Driving it convinced me that Porsche has achieved the ideal balance between a true sports car and a comfortable road worthy vehicle. The extra storage space and useable back seats are a bonus. They really did get it right with the Macan. Handling with AS/PASM and PTV+ satisfies the need for sports car performance. Acceleration from its 360 hp and especially with launch control is more than enough to provide that high school drag race experience (and a lot more). Punch it at 60 mph and you're doing 95+ before you think to look down at the speedometer. And yet for just casual driving and on road trips it's comfortable and quiet - finally justifies the extra $$'s for the Bose. The Macan GTS is a great blend of a nice car and a performance beast. I've put about 1,500 miles on it since purchase and am loving it. As to whether it's a substitute for a 911, you have to ask yourself whether you can mentally accept a compromise between an iconic sports car and luxury small SUV, or whether owning a 911 is an itch that needs to be scratched even if it isn't as practical. If you're going to regret not owning a 911 then the Macan isn't right for you (yet). On the other hand, driving the Macan will let you know, every day, that you've got a Porsche and that nobody does it better! 'Nuff said.

Have had 8 911s, Now 987.2 BS and 18’Macan Turbo (not stock). The Macan is a stupendous hot hatch/CUV but like it is said, “There Is No Substitute”. A 911 of most vintages are special. Wanted a convert again and found a unique ‘10 Box S which makes me grin every drive, just a different grin than the Macan.

Get rid of the A8. Get a macan and a 996 (which won’t break the bank)

I’m not really going from a 911 to a Macan, but I just bought my first Porsche - a 2017 Macan S. Having never been in a 911 I don’t really know what I’m missing, but I’m seriously happy with my Macan S.

Spirited driving on public roads is a blast, especially if you live in a mountainous area with lots of twisty roads. Launch control is great and the car pulls really well up to at least 110 mph (I’ve never pushed it faster than that). It corners better than any car I’ve ever driven and I think it looks better than 98% of other cars out there (pictures don’t really do the Macan justice in capturing the full depth of its curves). The engine sound out of even the stock exhaust is beautiful.

I was planning on buying a 991.2 C4S as a daily driver, but I needed something I could stash my tools in for work. I ended with a Macan S and it has seriously taken a huge bite out of my hunger for a 911 - at least for the time being. I didn’t expect the Macan to be as nice as it actually is.

I’m sure the Macan is no 911, but as nice as the Macan handles and accelerates, I can’t imagine how amazing a 911 must be. If you do get just a Macan, I’m sure you won’t be disappointed.

Thanks for all of the thoughtful replies. I guess I need to get out and test drive one. There's a 2017 Turbo in Sapphire Blue that is for sale near me. For the record, this isn't my first Porsche. I've had 3 911's ('77 Carrera 3.0, '84 Carrera, '03 996 Targa) and one '02 Boxster S. So for me it's not about scratching a 911 itch. It's more about getting back into the brand after a 13 year break. I love 911's but maybe a car that serves multiple purposes is a better route due to some garage limitations and parking limits at my house. Unfortunately I'm really only set up for 2 vehicles. Not impossible to do 3 cars, just not ideal.

Quick Reply: Anyone go from a 911 to Macan?
