Default Would you?? ... Should you???

Yeah this is another of those subjective kind of posts, but here’s what’s up, and just wanted to get some thoughts from the Macan Rennlisters here.

I’ve got a 2017 Macan GTS, great build, which I’m very happy with. Bought it a year old in 2018 as CPO, and currently only has 26K miles on it. It’s great!

Enter the instigator, a CPO 2015 Macan Turbo that came available recently at the P dealer. One owner trade, bought new at the same dealer and full service records. It also has a rather unique build which is what got me interested in it, otherwise I wouldn’t pay it any attention. I drove it and it’s really nice, hard to tell from new actually both cosmetically and in the way it drives. Service records look great, original owner did absolutely everything by the book.

I could get a great trade if I wanted to move to this Turbo, but I’m wondering if it’s really worth it in the long run? The mileage on the 2015 is 62k, which isn’t high, but not low either.

I spoke with the original owner this morning and he gave me the entire history on it and clean bill of health, no hidden issues at all. He was just ready for a new vehicle and simply traded it on a new Cayenne GTS. He special ordered this Macan Turbo, hence the nice build.

As far as pros and cons, sure each vehicle has theirs and those are things I’ll personally have to evaluate for myself. But let’s just say they’re comparable in terms of equipment/options. This really kind of boils down to Turbo model with it’s 3.6L versus the GTS and all of it’s unique attributes....is going to the Turbo’s additional power worth 2 model years older and more miles?

I think I may just be smitten with the thought of a different new-to-me vehicle, and after the ‘new-ness’ wore off I might regret the decision....and I’d hate that.

Thoughts? Talk some sense in to me!

Here’s a pic of each of them, some of you may already be familiar with my GTS from posts here on Rennlist over the years (white Turbo first then my black GTS)....

I don't think you can go wrong either way, but if it was me I would keep your GTS. There's something to be said with a car that you know inside and out. I also prefer the GTS look quite a bit.

A lot of times we see that new car on a dealer lot and are trying to justify the purchase. I think you have an already perfect car and I would keep it.

Since you asked an opinion, I like your GTS better. Newer, less miles, and I prefer the spec.

Personally having owned a Turbo with every.single.option, I can say stay with GTS. The GTS is what the Turbo should have been - special little bits here/there, yet, the Turbo, IMO, is a Macan base with a (Gen1) 3.6l turbo. Nothing special that you can't get on the base.
The GTS though: it was designed to add those special GTS bits and those bits are not available to the base or the Turbo. If you're looking for more HP, then get a tuner/tune and bump that thing over 400HP! That motor can handle that plus so much more. GL!

If you want reassurance, keep your GTS.
‘15 MY is old, pre ‘17 MY, when the Macan underwent several mid year cycle changes/refresh.

I’m from the camp, if I’m moving up, I’m also getting the newer/updated improvements.

Moreover, I’ve driven the Turbo on two separate occasions & I’m telling you, I could not feel any additional power/benefit from my ‘17 Macan S. I was underwhelmed w/the Turbo.
The GTS is the sweetheart/Goldilocks of the Macan lineup.

Cheers/B

I wouldn't, to me you have to look at the whole package. I've driven a turbo with performance package on track, it had power, but it's still a heavy SUV. I walked away thinking our S is just fine. If the Turbo and the GTS were the same model year, I would need to look at options but might lean towards the turbo. But given that this turbo is a 1st year vehicle and that is has the older 3.1 PCM. I would be unwilling to give up the PCM 4 in the GTS. The 3.1 PCM is ok, but it's ancient in comparison.

just my worthless 2 cents

What else do you have in your stable? Maybe give the GTS to the wife and buy the Turbo for you? That way you have fun both ways.

Fellow Rennlisters, thanks so much for the valuable input here! I didn’t want to say anything initially to skew the feedback I’d get, but I was leaning toward keeping the GTS. And the input I got here reaffirmed my notion to do so. I had many of the same thoughts as all of you, and I especially appreciated the insight from those of you that owned Turbos or had significant time in them. Very helpful. The GTS really is a special model in the lineup.

Whenever I decide to pursue something else at some point in the future, it’ll be a step forward for sure, not back, as I’ve always done in the past.

You guys gave me a good reality check and I appreciate that...excellent feedback and insight from fellow enthusiasts!!

My GTS is resting comfortably in my garage and I feel good!

The OP has made his choice and I agree fully.

I traded a well equipped 16 Macan S for and '18 Turbo with many fewer miles. I am more than pleased with the increased performance and the options it has. But I would not trade a new lower mileage GTS for an older higher milage Turbo.

The GTS is a VERY sweet variation on the theme, sportier than Turbo IMHO and this particular black one looks spectacular. .

Appreciate the additional insight and the compliment, thanks!

Here’s a couple more pics also showing the interior as well...

Is that a GTS key chain hanging down? If so, where did you get it?

Yes, it’s a factory/Porsche leather-alcantara keychain. That was a limited run offered through the Porsche Museum. Suncoast Porsche parts had a few of them available about 2 years ago for $99 and I snagged one. Haven’t seen them come available since. It’s a nice piece! Came in a nice presentation box.
