I'm not sure why this happens exactly (that one bluetooth device takes over from another), but the only solution was to 'forget' the car's bluetooth in bluetooth settings to be able to continue listening through my garage speaker. The same happened with phone calls - I make a call outside my car but as I approach the car and it's running, the call switches from my phone to the car.
It actually wasn't the bluetooth, it was wifi creating the issue. I shut off wifi and it was fine.

Ok. Well in any case it happened for me as described. I also just ordered the adapter so I guess I can look forward to this continuing in that case...

Get the wireless dongle from Amazon and don’t look back. https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

same as Car2play but cheaper Available overnight from Amazon here in NJ.

I’ve got one in my Macan, one in my Lincoln MKX with Sync 3 and my son has one in his 2020 Ford Ranger and they all work great.

Hopefully it's appropriate to post this, but I just got an email from CPLAY2Air that it is on sale for 2 days only for $99 plus free shipping (https://cplay2air.com/products/cplay...iber_hash=r3h8). I have no relationship with the company, just passing along the sale info.

I've been happy with CPLAY2Air, but occasionally my iPhone doesn't connect. Haven't had time to try to figure out why and haven't contacted CPLAY2Air. I'm still on IOS 12, so that may be part of my occasional connection issue.

On a separate note: Does anybody know how to set the "Sound Settings" on the Macan for CarPlay? It's easy to do through the menus for FM, CD, Bluetooth -- but have not seen how to set the Sound Settings for CarPlay (e.g. Spotify/Pandora played through CarPlay).

Although I knew going in that switching from an Android to iPhone was not going to be life changing. And knew that sadly Escort Live was not going to work with CarPlay. Was disappointed in the small number of apps that will work with CarPlay. Just the basics and that was unexpected.

So far. I do like the new iPhone. is a 12 Pro Max and although my last iPhone was a 4S (dang how small that looks today!) it's not a huge improvement over a Note 9. Just saying if you're looking at switching from Android to iPhone just to use CarPlay. Might be worth it if you have a newer Macan (that is assuming they have wireless by now) but for simple functions like phone, text, music.... might have limited control on music from the dash screen but rest works fine.

Have also tried a Carlinkit 2.0 wireless kit. Not impressed at all. Will not stay connected so I've had to unplug and reconnect for it to switch to CarPlay. And the direct connect works so much better. May have to try a different wireless unit as doubt I'll use the Carlinkit 2.0 very much.

Waze is nice and worth CarPlay if that's an app you use. Easy to switch between that and Google Earth for the Nav assuming you have ponied up for the Porsche service.

But if anyone knows of a radar detector that has an app that works with CarPlay please let me know. I have my Escort 360 Max hardwired with Blendmount so without the magic button on the power plug you really need Escort Live up on the screen to mark signals.

I have a Kuda mount on order (Luxor is backordered) and when I get that I plan on hardwiring to the USB. So would also welcome suggestions on a mount that uses MagSafe for charging as would be cleaner at least to attach the phone. Still have to plug it in but having two screens with one dedicated to the radar detector would not be all bad.

But as far as CarPlay.. Too bad they didn't make it mirror the apps on the phone better. Would be a no-brainer if it did.

In general I’m okay with the Macan’s implementation of CarPlay. But I’ve never been thrilled with how Tidal music streaming service works with it. On an album or playlist, it’ll play 2 songs then pause until you intervene and advance it further. During all of this the displayed content for the current song doesn’t advance/update either.

I’ve searched online and this seems to be a problem on VAG vehicles using Tidal in CarPlay. Haven’t seen any fixes yet. It does it in my Audi as well, same issue.

I'm guessing this is more Apple's fault than Tidal's. it looks like the problem has been there since at least Sep 2020 (https://www.autoevolution.com/news/t...ht-148724.html). I notice that Pandora, which is responsive directly on the iPhone, is extremely sluggish in CarPlay -- sometimes it takes forever to load, other times it loads, but when I select content, it doesn't play or takes a very long time before it starts to play. Spotify it also more sluggish through CarPlay than it is on the phone, though not nearly as much as Pandora. Apple would prefer we use Apple Music (since their major push these days is recurring services revenue), so they probably aren't attentive to other music service issues.

The Tidal issue seems like a huge problem, though, making it unusable, and it's been there for a long time -- it would be nice to see somebody chase down Tidal and Apple to get to the bottom of it.

Interesting. That could be, but I believe it works fine within CarPlay in some other makes, or so I’ve been told. Maybe not?

It is annoying, no question!

…and just to add a bit more info re: Tidal, there have been occasions (although very few) where I’ve used Tidal via CarPlay and it played fine!? Very strange indeed.

At first I thought it was because on one of the successful occasions, I had initiated Tidal directly from the phone itself versus CarPlay on the car’s touch screen. It began playing, displayed and updated on the CarPlay screen properly, and continued playing through the various tracks. Then I tried it that way again on another occasion, no dice.

I would definitely open up a case with Tidal. It would be very interesting to see what they have to say. The problem has been their a LONG time. I noticed (from google) it happens with BMW's also, not sure what else. That's a broad enough problem that they owe you an answer.

Good idea, I’ll contact Tidal. I had no idea it was such a widespread and longstanding issue. I just started my Tidal account a year ago.

I’ll report back with whatever response/action I receive from them.

Default Tidal Update

So timing is everything I guess……this afternoon before I even contacted Tidal, I see this update for my Tidal app (see photo). It mentions an update for……CarPlay! I haven’t tried it out in the car yet, but I’ll report back when I do…I just did the update. Fingers crossed 🤞🏻

Default They fixed Tidal for CarPlay!

I mentioned I’d report back once I had an opportunity to try out the recently updated version of the Tidal app in CarPlay. The recent update list showed fixes for CarPlay as the first item on the list.

I’m very happy to report that the previous longstanding problems with Tidal playback in CarPlay are fixed!! Tracks update on the screen properly from song to song, and it no longer stops after playing only 2 tracks. It now works in CarPlay just as flawlessly as it’s always done on my home audio system!

The latest update of the Tidal app is Version 2.27.1, Build: 4150. All you Tidal subscribers, check it out!

Congrats -- that's great to hear.

Stupid question -- but how do you update CarPlay? I thought you were talking about a Tidal update in the prior post -- I actually did not know you can update CarPlay itself.

Sorry, I typed CarPlay by mistake….it is the Tidal app that was updated. I corrected my post.
