Hi guys. Just bought a 2019 Macan 4 cyl for the wife. What oil are you guys using. I was thinking of going with Amsoil, but never used them. I was always a Mobil 1 or liqui moly guy but want to get your feedback. Also I dont trust this 10k oil changes, was going to do 5k max not sure if earlier for the first.
Driven DI40, which is a 0W/40, would be my oil of choice for a Direct Injected Porsche. It's specifically formulated for DI motors to prevent low speed pre ignition and has the right amounts of detergents and ZDDP. You'll have to mail order it from LN Engineering or Summit Racing, as you're not going to find it at Walmart.
The Driven product line is not Porsche approved, and requires an engine flush with BR30 (to acheive max results), so keep that in mind with your new Macan, that's under a factory warranty.
5,000 mile intervals is a good idea. For low mileage, at least yearly.
On my new cars, I also always do an early oil change at the 1,000 mile mark.
Good point. Missed that it was a brand new one. I'd use an A40 approved oil until the warranty expires, probably a Motul product like xcess 8100 5w/40 or if they have a new DFI oil that's A40 approved, then use that one.
Since your Macan is new and still under warranty, why not use one of the Porsche approved motor oils?
As for the number of miles between changes, it's your money. Heck you could change your oil every 1000 miles if
you wanted to. I read somewhere that the Mobil1 could actually go up to 15000 miles between changes.
Since Porsche calls for 10000 miles between changes, do you believe they want to be in the business of replacing
failed engines? If the manufacturer calls for a particular oil change interval, wouldn't they know what they're talking
about?

Like the man says, "It's your money...".
Anyone who has done used oil analysis on their oils from various high performance engines would never run any oil for 10k or 15k miles regardless of what the manufacturer recommended change interval is. In that time the additive packages break down to where the viscosity numbers a rent anywhere near what they were when it was fresh, the oil becomes acidic which is bad for everything it contacts, and combustion byproducts that are too small to get captured by the filter circulate through the oil. Why do you think the oil goes in golden brown but comes out black.
Running UOA on my 997 motors, I've seen Mobil 1 beak down in as few as 3,000 miles and why I don't use that anymore, even though that's what Porsche recommends and these were all street miles without any tracking.
The problem is auto manufacturers have to balance peoples unwillingness to spend money on their cars ot inconvenience themselves to take them in for service and if Mercedes or BMW says you don't need to change the oil in their cars but every 10,000 miles, then Porsche stands to lose sales to them when a prospective buyer says I have to take the Porsche in twice as often as the BMW, so I'll buy the BMW.
So, no, Porsche knows what they're doing but has to play the balancing act of many factors. I would bet you dollars to donuts that the guy who runs the engine programs at Porsche isn't thrilled about the recommended oil change interval the company puts out there, but has to go along with it.

Just stick with the Porsche approved Mobil 1, it'll be just fine. I've owned enthusiast high performance vehicles for over 4 decades and have personally never seen oil brand make a real tangible difference in the performance or longevity/durability of any of them, as long as you stick with a major brand approved for use in your vehicle and change it and the filter at the manufacturer specified intervals (or sooner).

Agreed! With your Macan being new and under warranty it would be highly recommended to use a Porsche approved A40 oil. Oil formulations are adapted to meet these standards so only A40 approved oils will have the proper additives and protection Porsche recommends for your engine.
We have several oils that meet this specification:
Oil changes etc: It's my feeling that Porsche, BMW or M/B especially are only worried about the first 6 years...(new and CPO) after that they don't care....and changing the oil every 10.000 miles is 60,000 miles, so not much problem within that time..
ps, I am looking to leasing a Macan S, so that is my reason for even reading this part of the Message board.

Can you explain the difference in X-Cess and X-Clean? I have a new Macan 2.0L Turbo 4cyl and a 2018 GT3.
Our products are formulated to be very application specific. They both cover slightly different different approvals (both include A40).
The X-Clean is a mid sap and is formulated with after-treatment (Catalytic Converter) system longevity and compatibility with Diesel Particulate Filters in mind.
The X-Cess is a full sap designed with more performance in mind. It is better for high temps and has higher shear stability.
