For those concerned about the shared Audi engine; it may interest you to know that approximately 1/3 of the Macan parts including chassis and engine are shared with Audi. Since I currently own both an Audi and a Porsche, I can affirm the Audi to be the equal of Porsche with regard to quality and overall performance. Different certainly but in a good way. Plus, you can bet Porsche makes necessary tweaks to fulfill their requirements and expectations since Audi doesn’t have quite the same cachet.

Hopefully not too off topic, but yesterday was the first chance for me to really drive and test my new Macan. Went up to the N GA mountains with twisty roads. The machine performs great (regardless of the parts debate). Sport mode, lowered air suspension, all help the Macan be one of the most fun SUV’s to drive. We are fortunate to own these.

I think what it boils down to is the more Audi parts that cross over to the Macan, the less reason buyers have to take it over the SQ5 which can be had for less money. I have a 2017 GTS and wouldn’t think of upgrading to the new gen.

It’s not a Porsche, it’s a Macan.

I absolutely love my ‘17 Macan S.

I went to the Audi site and configured a Q5. It is no where near as fun to configure and buy a car compared to Porsche. We have a ton of configurable options with the Macan!! No leather options, no sports chrono, no air suspension, no sports exhaust. Such a boring experience compared to buying a Porsche!

Yup. With Audi you can spec the prepaid maintenance @ ~$1k for the remaining 3 years whereas with Porsche its more like $3.7k above the initial free one in the 1st year.

Ah, practicality versus indulgence. It’s a lot more fun to choose the latter.

I wonder if it is like taking the Infiniti to the Nissan dealer where the service was more reasonable?

Could be worth a try. Audi and Porsche have traditionally used different scan tool software though. Audi uses VAGCOM whereas Porsche uses PIWIS.

My plan is to just use an Indi. Have a very good one close by.

Exactly, was thinking the same thing. That would probably preclude it.

I have a 2019 S loaner right now - I’ve never driven a gen 1 Macan S but this car runs very strong, especially in Sport mode. It’s not as torquey as my wife’s 2015 Turbo but absolutely plenty of power.

I bought a Porsche because at it's soul, it's a Porsche and not an Audi knock-off. I want to believe this since it's my first Porsche and because of the price I paid for the exclusivity.

As a former BMW M3 owner (four...), I liked the exclusivity of BMW's M engines. Same went for my previous 09 ML63 AMG, 09 GT500KR (x2), '62 MGB, 09 C63 AMG w Development Pkg, etc.
Ha. Nothing exclusive about a macan
