Default I screwed up today

My HWFMR sticker came off on the main straight. Some of our HWFMR teamates are saying it was speed related. I may have been going a little faster than I have in the past.

Edit: Oh yeah, I kind of got moved up another run group, but I did get my first black flag.

Mike , Mike , Mike......what has gotten into you? Ripping off sticker speed, moving up run groups? You will not likely be punished if you have video....and a good story about the Black Flag.

On a positive note, we had a great RennTogether @ the track. Martinis were served, lies were told, ... Adrienne's got a group photo of about 8 or so RennListers she'll hopefully be posting here soon.

I've got video, and this time with my new round wheels. Unfortunately, I still have the craptacular camera, so we still have the atomic blast images. I'll have to do some editing though before I post it.

The black flag, (which of course means keep driving, as the corner worker probably just smoked a doobie) was for passing kinda late. Yeah, I passed someone. Like two wide through turn 5. I came out of 4, and this guy gives me a point -by, but the doofas never lifts. I was in too high a gear due to screw-ups in turn 1 and 2, and so I didn't have much grunt to pass him. It was during my check-out ride to move to yellow, and the instructor and I talked about it as we were approaching the corner, & both decided to complete the pass. I did a nice job off-line through the corner, but then at turn 10 the flag came out. The track steward told me they thought I did the right thing after he heard my story. They just wanted to make sure I knew what I was doing. (which of course I really don't)

About that "too high a gear after screw-ups" thing.......try a down shift next time.

I know....it is only after years of experience that you would think of that on your own, but I am one of the few that will give you that kind of free coaching as part of my Pass It Forward Program.

Downshift--that's just crazy talk there!!!

I once got black flagged for passing someone in the Esses at Watkins Glen. I didn't know at the time that was considered stupid.

OK, so I come out of turn 10 today, look in my mirror and see a car coming at me at a very rapid pace, and think, "how the hell could that Mustang be gaining on me". Look again, and realize it's a silver M3. Quick point-by, look at the car, & realize it's VR taking someone out for a ride. Hate to do this, but I gotta rat him out. He may be slow in other ways, but I can tell you that VR is pretty damn fast on the track.

Isn't it great how Mother Nature compensates folks so that all things balance out???
