I think coilovers are more indicative of rice than clipping springs.

It's amazing how many people have coilovers that people put on so they could get the look they wanted. They never touch the shock settings, and never even heard of corner-weighting. They could accomplish the same thing for 2000 less but wanted the coilovers for pure bling.

I have had coil overs for a long time now, and in fact, the Ground Control spring perches (with Eibach springs and non-adjustable Bilstein shocks) are part of the required suspension package in Spec Miata racing. I bought the coil overs so that I could get the car corner weighted. When you look at my racecar when I am not in it, the left side literally is a bit higher than the right side. Folks have asked me about it a few times, in fact. I just ask them to look at the car and watch what happens when I get in and sit down. That's when they get what corner weighting is all about.

I still think that clipping springs is more ricer than having a set of adjustable spring perches. Spring perches, though costly, would be smarter for just about anybody. At least you can change the ride height if you are unhappy. With clipping the springs, you can't go back. Clipping springs, in my opinion, is a foolish move.

Bonster, I think your definition of Ricer is about right, all those things you mentioned, plus a boom box and blacked out windows.

I should expand on what I menat. Coilovers on a street car that never goes near a track is rice.

Clipped/chopped/compressed springs is just redneck to me. But that may be the Montana upbringing in me that thinks that.

You don't have to be from Montana to think that clipping springs is stupid. I think the reason kids (well, they are usually in their early 20s anyway) clip springs instead of doing it the right way is because they spent all their money on big ugly rims that weigh too much. When I recently got new shocks for my street car, I denied the temptation to get new springs and coil overs, mostly because I know it won't stop there -- pretty soon I'll have two racecars and will have to buy yet another grocery getter.

Lol, I've seen those stickers at the track, actually. I've got a couple of regulars to T.E.A.M. Racing that own wagons, and they aren't exactly slow. The WRX STI (not the wagon) is actually on my top ten list of cars I'd like to own. They're too expsensive at this time for me, plus I don't know the first thing about working on turbos. What I really need is a toy hauler and a trailer. Can the Cayenne haul a trailer (not that I can afford that, either actually)?

There are a number of people who have a Cayenne pulling the track car to the tracks. I don't htink I have any pictures of them though.

Wow . . . money towing money. Actually, one of our drivers tows up his Catheram 7 with his Cayenne, while his wife follows behind in her Boxster. Fun people, those two.
