The story goes on: it's been a month now since the box has given up... A new one was supposed to arrive at the dealership last week but unfortunately it hasn't. I talked to a well informed person who is telling me there probably is no gearbox in Germany and that it might take a while to get one... this is getting ridiculous...

^ i feel you pain. there were two in usa. i bought one and have another for spare. not sure where the other is, as of a month ago, atlanta had another. i can source you a correct gear box if you want. not mine. but it is OEM. of ourse this is out of your pocket not warranty.

new is about $10k. this one is much less. i know of only one for sale in USA.

I would be really curious to know if these gearbox maladies are manifesting in 981 Spyders as well, assuming the gearboxes are identical. This would be indicative of a larger problem. I don't know if the are precisely the same, but assume they are. Anyone know?

the problem is at this point it seems no one really knows what the specific problem is ? how many actual failures ? are they all in the first few thousand miles? if the failures happen early it would lend its self to being a manufacturing /assembly problem not a design problem. carl

I lost third gear in GT4 yesterday. On track upshifting from 2nd to 3rd. No noise no warning lights, and no noise thereafter. I can shift into third and the engine revs freely without engagement. Car has some subtle suspension mods but is otherwise stock. Running OE size Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2's. ~3800 miles.

Car will go to dealer this week.

^ put in 3rd gear, then pull both your feet off ALL PEDALS. does the car stall or will it run as it's in neutrual (make sure stick is in the usual 3rd gear postion).

if it runs, i think 3rd gear dog ring gone.
dealer likely warranty it but they will not know what is wrong b/c PAG PCNA will not allow box to be opened.

so far all the failures i heard have similar symptom. suddenly 3rd is just GONE.
no noise before or after.

i have never had any gearbox fail in this mode and i break a lot of stuff ;-)

Yes, third is now equivalent to neutral. No issues with any other gears.
