That bypass issue is why I installed the LN spin on adapter which uses the Wix Corvette filter with no bypass in my Spyder. At 2000 miles I didn't see any chips in the oil.

Yes, that's the one I'm looking at. The designer of this adapter suggests a "glitter test" which is similar to a wrestling technique called checking the oil You essentially stick your finger in the center return side of the engine (above where filter resides) and check for any metal. That will tell you if the oil bypass spring has fatigued or is failing.

I'm helping a buddy do a break-in oil service in the coming weeks. I'll examine the isolated pan oil and will let him do the glitter test (on the car, not on me).

For those that want to buy a complete kit including housing and crush washer:
http://suncoastparts.com/product/9A1...012310630.html
(note that I believe 9A110702400 comes with the housing but without the crush washer)

For those that are okay reusing the plastic filter housing, you can save a bunch by ordering through rmeuropean or similar:

Oil Filter
9A110722400

Crush Washer (18 X 24 X 1.5 mm Aluminum)
90012310630

Drain Plug
90021902031

Torque recommended in manual:
Filter 19 ft lbs
Drain plug 37 ft lbs

Am I the only one that uses foil? Works great as a funnel that can be shaped over the cross member. Everything stays clean.

just did the oil change this weekend and wanted to corroborate adding 8+ qt which got me to about 1-2 ticks above min. I added another 8 oz and I'm still about 2 ticks above min.

I got the oil temp to about 200F before starting the change. I use race ramp wheel chock stands which prop the rear 6" off the ground. I then used two jacks on the front jack points to get the car level and tilted to get the oil out. As you can see i got at least 2 gallons out, which is more than 8qt, not including oil that spilled or residual that just sticks around on the drain pan instead of flowing into the bottle.

Also I decided to reuse my drain plug and yes I felt it start to strip before it clicked at 37ft-lb. So having a backup is a good idea if you dont have perfect hex bits.

It seems that to measure oil level you have to warm up the oil, then shut off the engine, wait for a minute, and turn ignition to on without starting the engine to take a new measure.

Sorry if this has been addressed here, but the filter wrenches I was sold for my GT4's and my 991S are different, as are the filters. This thread tells me that the wrenches are the same - should the filters also be the same?? Isn't the GT4 engine a detuned 991 engine - 3.8l?
