So, we had a beautiful day on NJMP Thunderbolt today. Ambient temps were mid-70's, mostly sunny. First session with my 15 mile-old RE71s was an instructor check ride done at 7/10s. I dropped the resulting semi-hot pressures to about 32 psi thinking I'd hit 34 when running in our red group. Car sat about an hour before I went out. After maybe 3 or 4 hot laps, the tires were pretty greasy and the TPMS were showing 38 so I pulled in. Reset them to about 33 in anticipation of the next run group. Next run group I spent 10 - 15 mins playing with a GT3 and set my new personal best, dropping from a 1:31.50 on MPSC2s to 1:30.76 on the RE71s.

I don't think it's fair to say that all the speed came from the RE71s as I only started setting the prior fast laps on my relatively old MPSC2s.

My impressions of the RE71s -- maybe a bit more sensitive to high pressure compared to the MPSC2s -- the RE71s seemed to get slippery faster when overly hot compared to the MPSC2s.

I think the steering is a tad lighter with the RE71s compared to the MPSC2s but the overall feel is pretty good and they feel quite progressive to me. They also seem to sing a bit more but it's hard to tell with an open window, headers and a helmet.

Overall, I'm happy with them. I got about 30 red group sessions and 15 white group sessions out of my MPSC2s so if I can get close to the same with the RE71s, I'll be happy.

You got 45 heat cycles (sessions) out of MPSC2s without cording them? Something is amiss since most don't get anywhere near that; maybe 1/2 of that.

I was wearing the outer edges on the MPSC2s tremendously with the stock alignment. Once I got my track alignment done by TPC, the wear across the fronts was amazingly even.

I'm a bit of a finesse driver I think; heck, maybe I'm too slow. When I used to race SRFs, I'd get about 25% or more tire life compared to most other guys.

I will say that the last couple of days (say, 8 sessions or so) on the MPSC2s were getting interested with them being slick.

I'd have to run parade/cooldown laps to get 45 HCs on Cup2s.

RE71Rs are the solution.

Had a good track day today -- as indicated by my 20" RE71s moving about 6" on my rear rims (see below) and about 2" on the front rims. White arrow was above the valve stem this morning.

Funny that the OEM MPSC2s never rotated on my rims. Maybe the factory puts something sticky on the rim (good old hairspray trick??) before mounting the tires?

Were they run right after install? Maybe the install lube didn't have time to dry before hard driving?

This was my second track day on them. The first day was Oct 7th. I had them mounted on Oct 6th. I marked them this morning before going out so this is brand new rotation. Forgot to do it when I had them mounted.

Don't notice much imbalance on the track but eventually I'll probably have to get them rebalanced.

Hmm I need to try this marking... I felt what I would have sworn was rotating of my RE71Rs as well under heavy braking.

Wow, you're more sensitive than me! I couldn't tell this was happening at all.

The standard GT4 Michelins differ only by 0.2" diameter, but

Is this really true?? That's a huge variation for systems like PSM, ABS, etc. to function normally!

So, the Good news is --> they are sending 20" RE-71R (295/30R20 & 245/35R20) . These are the exact size of the OEM, so I believe it has to work now!!

anyway, sorry for the mistake --- but should be good soon enough... either way i'll confirm the 20's when they arrive..
Thank you

Damon@Tire Rack, any chance Bridgestone will be making the RE-71R in 305/30-20 anytime soon?
