Default Check your nuts and bolts occasionally...

During my routine nut and bolt check I found one nut missing on the right LCA, three bolts missing from my headers, and two more loose!

I think I found the part number for the header bolts: 999-073-535-01, but does anybody have the part # for the nut on the suspension?

. A fair suggestion, although the factory install doesn't use loctite for either. I'm a little hesitant to use it into the heads, but might on the suspension parts.

It seems the bolts were not torqued properly after the header install. It seems very odd that all of those would just fall out if torqued to the factory specs.

Normally I would agree, but I did the header install and torqued them down myself. Perhaps the vibrations from going over the curbs on track did it.

Had exhaust manifold bolts loosen on my 987.2. Can't recall the torque spec but it's relatively low and dry. I just check them regularly.

Ive been told that loctite will become moot in a head because of the heat, sounds good but I'm not positive because I've seen something yellow(loctite?) on GM factory head bolts in an AL head.
You might find a locking header bolt from ARP.
Anti-seize on any bolt that goes into aluminum for me.

All fasteners on any header system should be rechecked after the first 6 to 8 hours of operation to make sure they are torqued back to spec. On header systems I've installed on various cars, several of the fasteners will need tightening after this initial run-in period. I always check them a third time after another 10 hours or so, and then again about 10 hours later. If I find a fastener that repeatedly needs re-torqued, I take action to resolve. There are some nice products on the market to hold fasteners, but they don't always prevent the need to re-torque, for example a gasket can compress due to baking in the heat and the clamping force of the fasteners, and even if the fastener never turns, it can need a re-torque over time.

Yeah its like 17 lb ft, solid advice to check them often.

Did the 987 have the bracket that holds the manifold to the head in addition to the manifold bolts? My hypothesis is that because the aftermarket headers remove this bracket, the manifold bolts are left to do the entire job and loosen. It makes some sense as the outside bolts are the problematic ones and the inside bolts are not loose at all.

Good suggestions.. I used ARP stuff on previous cars and it worked well.. may try it on the GT4.

On the suspension? Yes, in order to get more negative camber.

I don't remember if the 987 had brackets or not. I did have an aftermarket cat back exhaust on the car, so I wonder if that exhaust caused more flex and resulted in the bolts loosening.
