The thing is if I spend the time and money to crack open the engine for the X51 power kit, I do not want to just go with the X51 wimpy camshafts or whatever wimpy modification they do to them. I would definitely want something more aggressive while I have the engine apart with upgraded springs/retainers/valvetrain to accommodate the upgraded camshafts Of course the port and polish on the heads and X51 intake manifold from the kit will be kept. The only company I found that can potentially make custom 9A1 camshafts is
Any thoughts BGB? Fabspeed? Of course I'm talking way down the line when I run out of warranty I'm making this thread early so I don't loose my train of thought which seems to happen a lot these days
I have someone working on cams for next offseason but you have to remember that it's not just about the cams, it's about having control of the mapping to take advantage of said cams. We are still a ways out on having full control over the X51 cams. I know the X51 Power Kit is expensive; i just took a GT4 customer for a ride in my car. He was blown away. Where do you live? Maybe I need to take my girl on the road this summer for a Stage II Road Show!?
I'm headed back to the dyno Monday with the Cobb software just to tinker with cams.
If the engine is already out, it can be further disassembled so the bore can be increased over 4.0L when using the long stroke crank.
Jack Raby states that the current 9A1 block can support 4.4L, but that may be with his proprietary liner, what's the largest size with conventional machining that can still support the flow of the X51 heads?
Since most of the magic is in the X51 heads and intake. Why not just order new heads from porsche. Along with intake and software would complete the package.
