Mine also works fine with the Porsche factory charger (CTEK) using the footwell location. July build...

Sept. build, Ctek 4.3; normal charging thru smoker's port. Weird.

^^^ I did not know this...apologies to Pete and Kman ^^^ ... learn something every day here...

Some more info on this from my end...

I spoke to a Porsche dealer service tech I trust, he said that in current production cars Porsche has put a new sensor on the battery ground connector to sense the 12V DC activity in the car and to the battery... and these are proving to have perhaps slightly different sensitivities to different trickle chargers.

Based on this info, I decided to try a different battery charger (an Optima I have as a spare, rather than the Noco Genius I normally use) on the same car that was previously not reading the Noco and shutting off the DC 12v circuit... Voila!! all good, charges just fine (like the other car) without having to use the car key at all...

... so I would say to the OP maybe try a different trickle charger and see. Leave it to PAG to make something that was nice and simple and fool proof into something more complicated...

Good thread.

If I drive my car once a week so I need to worry about charging it with one of these chargers?

AMG Battery you could drive it once per month and not worry. The trickle charger does help to extend battery life though so i would do it if driving just once per month but if driving once per week no problem

Thx for clarfying this.

I was at my dealer today and he told me that there is another GT4 owner who had the same issue. And they opened a ticket to understand the reasons. Let's see.

if i understand what pete is saying about the 987 series footwell plug being on a lower amperage fuse than the center console plug, i think it is actually safest to use the center console plug if your charger is higher than a 3 amps max charge rate (e.g., some of the higher power noco/ctek units charge as high as 8 amps)... but for a more conventional $25-100 trickle chargers that typically run .75 to 3 amps charge rate, all plugs should work fine...

Hi guys. Feb 16' build using the Porsche Charger "Charge-o-mat" 980-611-981-00 and I am experiencing the same issue as the OP. I will try my other Porsche Charger "Charge-o-mat" 955-044-900-54 tonight to see I get a different result. I plugged in to the center console and not in the passenger footwell. Pulled away once forgetting the charger was plugged in. Dark garage and dark interior makes the cord tough to see.

Great Info, Thank You!
The prior version CTEK only output 0.8 amps, must be that low current charging is below the system's noise level

A trickle charger is different than a battery maintainer as it provides a constant charge regardless of the battery and can possibly overcharge, resulting in boiling off the electrolyte.

A Battery Maintainer varies charging based on the state of the battery and can condition the battery for improved absorbtion and desulphation

I can get a CTEK MUS 4.3 with Comfort LED cig lighter for about $80 and it is a generation newer with superior modes and charging profile stages than what Porsche will sell you for twice that.

$80 is all we're talking about here, I have 5 of these for my cars and love them.
When one of the Italian cars spit oil on the alternator and depleted the battery twice, the CTEK MUS 4.3 brought it back for two more years of service before it hit the 6 year change date.

I currently use this on my GT4 connected directly to the battery terminals under the frunk.
I am searching for a more elegant way to do this by way of an adapter pig tail into the frunk...but can't find an slot for the wires to come across the top panel.

I avoided the in car outlets because of not waiting to compress any wires when the doors and closed

Charge-o-mat is actually CTEK, but Porsche stamped their name on it.
Mine is the 5.0 version, which output 5A and can charge up to 110Ah batteries. I think it is the same version as the Charge-o-mat II.

I have this and I will install it in frunk, so that I will not need to clamp everytime.
