it's raining GT4s
For those of you still on lists, sit tight. I had a 3rd car(allocation, not a used car) offered to me through a dealer yesterday from a list I was on so I think there are still allocations trickling out. While I was towards the top of the list at my Texas dealer, this was an out of state dealer, and I was a double digit waiting list number, never expected to get a call on that. I tried to get the dealer to let me place the allocation with a RL member, but they wanted to honor their list.....good for them, glad to see there is some degree of morality remaining in the craze!
Good to hear. I hope everyone who wants and can afford a GT4 gets one. Even though I find it cool to own a fairly rare car, I think it will be plenty rare just as a result of its price and niche appeal. I would get no additional satisfaction with my car from knowing that it's so rare that people who really want one aren't able to get one. I've never really understood that mentality of people enjoying things more because other people can't have it.
I think the increased allocations will affect the flippers short term (GOOD!) but a few more cars won't affect the longterm desirability/value of the GT4 since it will be a one year run. In 5-10 years time no one will believe Porsche sold this car for "only" $85,000 MSRP!
Because all the flippers are seeing that they can't gouge the enthusiasts and their GT4's aren't selling for over MSRP plus their taxes paid so they are deciding not to buy them.
It is a great thing that these cars will finally get in the hands of folks that know they only have two seats and didn't just buy a house or didn't have some other family emergency.
The used market is full of them.

It all works out. I think there is probably less demand than there could be because people have already given up/assuming there will be a markup. I know of several people who would buy today if they could get at MSRP - but they have moved on .
I think we're also seeing that the market for a $100,000, two-seat sports car just isn't that big. We're all pretty rabid about it on this forum (obviously!) but objectively, it's got some serious competition, in the broader "cars I might spend $100k on" market.
It reminds me a little bit of the BRZ/FRS. Super hot, hard to get when they first came out and now they can barely give them away. Basically, everyone who wanted one got one.

People might find it funny that early on the brz/frs buyers were discussing how much of a collector car the brz/frs was and how it could be worth more in the future. Don't laugh, because the same silly discussions are being had here with the GT4. People that think they can own this car for 'free' are in for a hard awakening. Any appreciation of the GT4 is a very long shot and won't occur for several years. Meanwhile, I'll be enjoying my GT4 at the track

Bingo. You got it. The only difference is that Porsche makes just enough for the number of buyers out there and then stops. Subaru kept on churning out cars and now they rot on the lots.

BTW and totally unrelated, I took a screenshot of your private track day invite post and sent it to my brother. He's an orthopedic surgeon in Australia who's also into driving (owns an EVO) and has done several Porsche driving school classes. I suggested that he should follow your direction on how to spend money! ;-)

Time to move
Seriously?! Wow, I had no idea. That is sad & funny. A fun car, to be sure. I was thinking about getting one just for a autocross / Oakland hills driving car. Sadly, actually living in the Oakland hills, with the associated tiny garage space, rules out getting yet another car.

My first track car was an Evo X MR. Fun car, but just wasn't up to the task in the end. I gave up on the car in the end because I couldn't stop the transmission, engine, and fuel pump from overheating. I also learned the hard lesson about chasing your tail when you start heavily modifying cars for the track....
As long as it's not raining water or snowing,I'm good because I get to drive it more.
It seems to me a lot of posters on Rennlist like to go to the extremes : it's either that the scarcity of these cars is so bad that some were crying for not being able to get one, some even threaten suicide,on the other hand it's now " raining " with them. It's neither.
I am sure I am not liked too much on here for sometimes calling things like they are,but I am not here to win a popularity contest. One can learn quite a lot reading and contributing on Rennlist, but the amounts of bull**** are sometimes tremendous. And I'm not referring to this thread in particular, but to many other.
I will personally stay a bit in the background and post only when it's absolutely necessary or when I can help with something.
