Default Insurance Question!

Curious as to what everyone is paying yearly for their insurance on their GT4. I use Safeco and have full coverage which is $6200/year for the car. Also no worries if you don't feel like sharing, I just feel mine is a little high and wanted some comparison.

That seems really expensive. I paid less than that for four cars, 3 of them new and >$50k, but insurance takes many variables into account.

I have home insurance along with insurance for 8 other cars for my family with State Farm so I get a package deal. GT4 is not my primary car and I pay around $1100-1200 a year for full coverage for the GT4.

Like sapman said...a lot of variables play into the insurance rate. The most important one is probably your driving record. However, your quote does seem very expensive.

My wife and I insure a 1994 911 cab, GT4, 2013 BMW 328, and 2007 4Runner all for about $4500. The GT4, as a part time car, bumped my rates about $2000. Our driving records are pretty clean (few fender benders over 30 years that were other peoples fought or a rare ticket) and I live in Texas.

$6200 seems extremely high.

I see these type of questions on forums constantly. 99% of the time the one asking doesn't take into account and/or lists:

age,
driving record,
location,
limits,
deductibles,
additional cars,
home,
other policies,
etc

They need to learn that its more than just $$$$s but that a lot of other variables enter into this as well.

Wow. 18, male, unmarried, with lots of points?

I pay 1/2 that for 5 cars, four of them Porsches.

It's currently insured under my dad, it's going to go up to $8000 when I take it over in the summer due to my age! And he is mid 50's, great driving record, 10+ cars and a few houses.

You felt $6200/yr was A LITTLE high??

My GT4 insurance is about $750/yr with Amica Mutual, with whom I also have my wife's Mini and our condo insurance. I'm 29, she's 30, nothing on either of our driving records, and no claims where either of us was at fault (only two minor claims where we weren't at fault). Living in Austin, both cars registered as less than 50% of overall usage for commuting since we both work from home a fair amount. $1000 deductible, $250/500/200 limits.

Oddly enough the GT4 turned out to be slightly cheaper to insure than the 2011 M3 I just traded in. The insurance agent was a bit puzzled too but guessed that it was because newer model year cars are presumed to have more safety features. Their system also seems to have recognized the VIN as just a Cayman, so that may have helped.

Amica Mutual is excellent, incidentally. Every time I've had to talk with them, they've been a pleasure to deal with, and at least in Texas they're one of the few auto insurers left that don't have the exclusion verbiage that excludes coverage for driving on a racetrack for any reason whatsoever; they still only exclude practicing for or competing in any racing or speed contest. I only found them when shopping for my own insurance after graduating from college and getting off of my parents' plan, and ordinarily I wouldn't have gone for them since they quoted me the lowest rate out of the 8 insurers I looked into, which made me wary that they might not be there when the time came, but at the time they had something like 11 years of being top rated on customer satisfaction by JD Power (behind only USAA and The Hartford which aren't available to the general public), so I went for it, and far from letting me down, they've consistently gone above and beyond for me. All that said, other people to whom I've recommended them have found their quotes to be quite high, so maybe they've changed something recently for new customers.

About $80/mo with State Farm. Metro Atlanta, excellent record, top tier credit score, 30s age group, low annual mileage, 100/300/100 coverages, and $1000/1000 deductibles.

I pay about $1,800 I can give some advice on keeping it down though.

If you get pulled over always roll down your window put both hands at the 10 and 11 position on the wheel and wait. Next when the officer ask do you know how fast you where going I always reply...no I was to busy looking around for police running radar. I then give a little laugh and then admit yes I was speeding and ask for a reduction of speed on the ticket "under 15mph is the key in FL" I do have a CDL so that always helps. Now a days police are so stressed out at every stop and if you make them feel relaxed they will be more likely to cut you some slack.

That is insanity . . . UNLESS your driving record has tickets or wrecks, or both, to the extent you are in the Texas high-risk pool for vehicle insurance? If that is the case, then that rate may in fact be correct on a $100k sports car.

For comparison, I insure 4 cars, which includes a 991S, 2 BMWs, and a Jeep with FULL coverage 300/500 + 2 mil umbrella and my HOUSE for considerably less than $6,200 a year. However, we have spotless driving records in my household. That being said, it probably also helps that I am 43.

Credit scores have a huge impact on insurance rates. How's your score and credit history?

Interesting, did not know this. My credit score is 795, I believe. Any idea why that's a factor for insurance? Are people who live right up against or even beyond their means demonstrably more likely to live life in the fast lane on the road too? Or is it just an indicator of how presumably responsible you are in life overall, like being married resulting in lower premiums on the assumption that you'll be more careful if you have someone to come home to?

Just like insurance, credit and finances are also personal risk management. So, they're linked.

I m use Chubb and Pay around 6k for my S4. Thankfully that was before all my speeding tickets started to drop off my record (it was an unlucky few months)

Does anyone have experience agreed upon value policies?
