Just to update, first company we called got it down to $2400/year, still high but sure beats the hell out of over $6k. Will be calling more next week when I have a chance.
As far as driving records goes, my dads is about as clean as it gets, one speeding ticket in the last 5 years and zero claims. I racked up my fair share of speeding tickets when I was first driving but haven't had one in over 3 years *knocks on wood* so I'm sure it will be higher for me, but the $6200 was only him on the insurance. If it is insane high when I go to switch it over to me in about 6 months then I'll just wait till I'm 25 (an extra year).

My understanding is that on multi-car, multi-driver policies, they quote on the assumption that the most expensive driver to insure is behind the wheel of the most expensive car to insure.

Well on the insurance for that car he is literally the only one on it, not even my mom. Strictly him.

Not true, at least not with GEICO. I have six cars on my policy, including three reasonably high dollar sports cars ($85k-125k), and two teenagers in the house and on the policy. They are primary drivers on my Avalanche and a Camry, but are insured to drive any of the cars. The most expensive car on the policy costs me $700 a year for full coverage, 300/500 + 500k underinsured/uninsured. I'm 50 with a clean record.

Interesting, I had a feeling different insurers might do things differently. Although the sports cars aren't always the most expensive to insure. When my wife had her '07 Civic Hybrid it was MUCH more expensive than my '11 M3, which insurance explained was because the Civic in general has a high theft and low recovery rate (a particular gray Civic is a needle in a haystack on the road....), plus the hybrid electronics could make it much more expensive to repair in an accident. And actually when I replaced the M3 with the GT4, my premiums went down -- very slightly, but still down. The agent I was working with was surprised too, but he guessed that it was because newer model year cars are assumed to have more safety features.

I'm sure everyone is aware that insurance premiums vary considerably from state to state, as well as location within the state, and individual parameters. Here in New Mexico, where 40% of drivers are uninsured despite a law requiring insurance, premiums are very high regardless of your driving record, health or how many cars, houses, boats and lives you have insured with the company.
I see how much many of you are paying to insure your GT4s, and I an envious. Of course, I'm trading that off to live in what for me is an ideal climate...

NM is awesome. Aside from the natural beauty and climate, I love that the most important question when going to eat there is "Green or Red?"

34 years old, good driving record, perfect credit, California.

Was paying $840/year with Geico for my 987.1 CS.

Was quoted $1200/year for my GT4, before they pulled their offer after I asked about potential track coverage.

Will now have AAA at $1800/year. Not sure why its 50% higher than Geico (I was a customer for many years). All claims are with $1000 deductible and receiving a multi-policy discount for having home owners insurance as well.

Yeah I've read a lot of stories of insurance companies rescinding offers or even non-renewing longtime customers for even asking about track coverage, particularly USAA. That's why I recommend prospective customers ask for a sample policy to read it themselves rather than asking about track coverage. Amica Mutual's verbiage at least in Texas still has the exclusion for racetrack driving only for practicing for or participating in racing or speed contests, which indicates to me that HPDEs with instructors and classes would be covered, but open track days may be a stickier situation. But I've read other policies that say no coverage while driving inside a racing facility for any reason whatsoever, including to improve driver skill.

That's odd, as I've had that conversation with GEICO about both my cars and motos. In both cases they simply said there is no coverage, as their policies specifically exclude any participation in track events, even untimed DE events. Didn't have any impact on my policy.

Yeah, I was shocked.

In fact, I only asked casually as I was calling to pay my home owners insurance and said "hey, while I have you on the phone, how much would it be for a GT4?" They gave me the price and I said "and do you guys do any track insurance?". He told me to hold for a sec, to which I thought he was checking, but he came back and said "I'm sorry". I thought sorry meant no they dont, but he was sorry they were recinding my entire coverage. I was confused, then angry. "I don't understand, I'm just asking a question, I don't even have the car yet." "I'm sorry sir, this is our decision, have a nice day" and hung up.

I got a letter in the mail a week later just for good measure. Wow.

^^^ Asking an insurance company about track insurance is like asking the girlfriend about going to the Nudie Bar. You never quite know the response and it will vary depending on their mood! In your case she was P..O and you got slapped in the face.

I was quoted about $1500/year TX. I believe this will be for $500 deductible. I find Geico will always be cheaper but when it comes down to making a claim they are the worst. Although i have not made a claim with them, its what i hear from people that did have them.

I've had two claims with GEICO over the many years I've had them and they were great in both cases. Paid top dollar, quickly, with no hassles. I love them. And they're rates are very competitive.
