I got it for the looks. Hate it on 911, but like it on 981.

On a side note, something that is not publicized well, is with sport chrono you also get couple of gizmo displays - the G force meter and the shift indicator display. Nothing crucial. But quite a few don't realize with out sport chrono, you don't get those (you still get the power/torque display with out it).

Sport Chrono on GT4 is a waste of money IMO unless you like the useless clock bling.

What does the shift indicator display look like?

Here is the page in the manual - http://www.porscheownersmanuals.com/...hift-assistant

Previous thread - https://rennlist.com/forums/gt4/8878...-displays.html

Interesting that in the RS you get the G meter even with out sport chrono. According to people who have posted here who have GT4 with out sport chrono, they don't have the G meter display.

ps. I am still catching up on your epic Trackcar ED thread when I get time. Epic trip... wish to emulate even tiny part of it some day.

Rather than buying a new wrist watch, I spec'd mine with sport chrono I feel the dash looks complete and amazing with it there, particularly with the deviated stitching! I have a dedicated race car, so this is simply a purist street car for me, if it was a track car solely, I would order it fully stripped with LWBs, nothing else. Two different purposes/mindsets.

So I'm reconsidering my configuration. As I understand it:

1) Sport Chrono is a nice $1800 watch on the dash
2) Lap timer is about as useful as my 06S lap timer.
3) G meter and gear indicator included (for a manual car??)

ok. if its for looks, I much rather get the deviated stitching and $325 on a yellow patch on top of the steering wheel....

I love OEM equipment and have it. It is there should I need it.

I don't like the look of the clock, but the Track Precision app (includes WLAN module) is available separately from Tequipment for $1495;

The Porsche website says something about having Sport Plus button with Sport Chrono, so the GT4 has Sport and Sport Plus??

Just to clarify for you - without SC you do get a "gear indicator" showing which gear is engaged, but you don't get the ascending graphic ring of changing color "lights" to let you know you're getting to redline. Of course if you're watching that you can't watch the secondary gauges. Seems to me it might be mildly amusing for a day.

Don't believe everything you read on the website or in the owners' manual for that matter. PAG really had a disconnect between reality and its copywriters regarding the GT4.

The track precision app is the only reason I'd pay for it, and seems to have come a long way from buggy early versions. The interface isn't the best, but it's better integrated than aftermarket solutions I've used. Looking over the data traces with a pro race engineer friend of mine he commented that it's got most of what they really use- slip angles front and rear, etc, and I find the data very useful. Yes like nearly all Porsche options it's overpriced at $1800, but I'd get it again (for my use) for the relatively clean way to get data.

But if it doesn't add things like throttle and brake application, wouldn't something like a SmartyCam HD be better?
